Decided (Rude or Not)

Posted by Harlow, 01 September 2014 · 682 views

So I decided about what I was asking about on the Rude or Not Blog and I thought I'd share (in case anyone was actually curious by some miracle :lol2:).

I decided to just go ahead and buy a different bag. While I'd love to get the exact bag that I fell in love with (I know, cheesy) I was thinking if I have to even question whether or not it's rude, then it must be. This way I'll still be happy with the new bag, but there's no weirdness or hard feelings in the office.

Thanks everyone who gave your opinions. :D If I didn't have some other opinions, I would have been arguing with myself for a while!

Rude or not?

I have 2 bosses. 1 is the main boss (Ashley) the other one is like a manager (Heather). So Ashley is a huge Louis Vuitton person, loves those bags so much and knows all about them. She always gives her old ones to Heather. I've been working for the company for 6+ years now. Ashley and Heather are more close though because they've been working in the office together longer and are the same age (I'm 25 years younger then them both).

A month ago Heather left her LV bag on her car seat when going to a club. Which is plain stupid with any purse, I thought everyone knew not to leave your purse on your seat where anyone could see it and break in? Not her I guess. Anyways, her window was smashed and someone stole the bag (bag had LV coin purse, wallet, trickets aka $$$). She filed all the paperwork with insurance/etc and will be reimbursed for the items stolen (even though she didn't actually spend any money on them).

My boss has had this LV purse for a long time (3+ years) that I absolutely love. I've never been a designer handbag person but I just love the way it looks and everything. She was talking about buying a new one for a while and I always wanted to ask if I could buy her old one off her because she's not someone who keeps old bags to use later, but I didn't want to ask while she was still using it. One morning I saw she had bought a new LV bag and I asked her what she did with her old one, she said she gave it to Heather. I was a bit bummed cause I didn't even have a chance to ask to buy it off her, she gave it to her the same day she bought her new bag. Heather has not used the LV bag and still uses another nice designer bag.

So, my question is: would it be rude of me to ask to buy it off Heather? I know Ashley wouldn't care because she wasn't phased at all when the bag/etc she gave Heather was stolen. To me it's like it doesn't hurt to ask and she hasn't used the bag, but I just want to make sure it's not completely out of line to ask her. I plan on buying one anyways, it's just an odd sentimental thing that that's the bag I fell in love with so it would be awesome to have that exact one.

My thing is I just don't want her to think I wanted to be gifted it instead of her or that I'm asking in hopes she'll just tell me to have it for free. I was thinking too just buy your own one, but then I was like what if she doesn't even care and was like why didn't you just buy this one? I'll drive myself crazy arguing back and forth. This certain bag style is retired so I wouldn't be able to buy a new one, it would have to be used. Plus I like used bags more cause of the character. I like the more honey color on the used ones too.

So should I go ahead and ask or not? :S
