also, you could go ahead and say that 1x1-1 is half of 2x2-2, which also equals zero. Having said that, in the US, "half of" generally insinuates parenthesis for the following equation, whatever that may be. So you could argue that either 1 or 0 is correct, but that the question is in fact wrong.
