So, if we put the risks besides.. Yes, it should be legal.

I am a virgin; and besides this fact, from a theoretical point of view (if I put health risks and general risks aside) I would consider becoming a prostitute.

I mean, there are not only the "cheap" ones who do this because they don't know how to get enough money otherwise.

If you want to do it well [from the point of a prostitute], there are some things you have to consider. Some.. basic skills of understanding what your customer wants. I do not mean what he asks for; but what he needs (which he is telling you without any words ) so he is able to let himself go.

I would want to be able to react to his actions correctly, without him telling me what to do (unless he exactly wants me to do this; to listen to his orders).

Does he want to take the dominant part in this play? Does he want to have the control while he seems to fulfil everything I want, seeing a woman in estate because of his sexual skills (even though, in the end, I’d give him this idea because he needs to see how skilled he is, in every way?)

Or am I the secret spot where he allows himself to let everything go; am I the one where he doesn’t need to be in control for once, where he is comfortable with being devot and doing everything I ask him for, even though he is the paying one?

And how do I make it a real pleasure?

I could just tell a story of my supermodel-friend with super large breasts, with whom I had some drinks and we ended up drinking champagne out of each other’s belly buttons and while making him imagine this scenario, I could just.. lay my hands on. And he’d be finished in.. like.. some minutes, okay. But would he be satisfied? Not even in a sexual way.. Because I think, it’s not (just) the sex they are paying for.

(By the way; because of all these arguments, I am considering of taking a part-time-job at an erotic- call center... somewhen. When I get a little bit more experienced and more self- confident. Because I would as well need to tell what the customer wants to hear, preferably just knowing it without being told what to say. And they won’t get my phone number, my real body, not even my real name. I will play a role, be somebody else and just a few words could please someone else..)

But even if we put all this “what does the customer want besides sex” aside and assume he simply wants sex and nothing else; if a woman is fine with doing this for money, why not? If there existed no health risks, no risks of being raped or hit (not in a BDSM way, where it could be tolerated if it is safe, sane and consensual), if it was simple as that, simply having sex with someone for a couple of dollars- why not?
If nobody gets hurt and it is consensual, I don’t see the problem.

Europe deals with it pretty well.

By having organised brothels, you maintain a safe® environment for the girls to work.

I think if anything, lap dancing clubs are more problematic than brothels (why anyone would want to pay a woman to tease them sexually and not be able to touch them is beyond me :/

People don't like the idea of selling sex, but it happens all the time whether you like it or not.

People don't like the idea of selling sex, but it happens all the time whether you like it or not.

I think this is very true. Just remember the prohibition of Alcohol in the US in the 1920's!

Prohibition was supposed to lower crime and corruption, reduce social problems, lower taxes needed to support prisons and poorhouses, and improve health and hygiene in America.

Instead, Alcohol became more dangerous to consume; organized crime blossomed; courts and prisons systems became overloaded- a disaster!

And people never stopped drinking alcohol. It was forbidden, but the black market gave access to the goods they wanted.

And with prositution, it was and will be the same. The laws may be strict and the thoughts behind it may be kind, but was there ever a time where people did not sell their bodies?

If you forbid it by law, the negative aspects of the risks will increase.

So they should simply try to make it more safe, even if they possibly do not agree with the thoughts behind prositution.

It is technically legal in the UK and we don't seem to have major problems with it, I guess that's probably because the more problematic aspects of it are illegal (like pimps, public prostitution and kerb crawling etc).

Jeez if that's true, then would you please stop having your bachelor parties over here, fucking every prostitute there is and vomiting in our streets :( (just kidding, you guys are like 50% of our economy). Here in Amsterdam it's pretty much all legal and lately there have been a lot of window 'clean-ups' where illegal prostitues, a lot of the time brought here by pimps from Eastern Europe and then exploited with no place to go, were removed from their windows and put into shelters if they needed help. A lot of the women behind the windows over here and in the more exclusive brothels, make the active choice to be a prostitute and they keep all the money they make (well except for the rent they pay for their windows). They will also NEVER do anything without the use of a condom, if you come into their room they have everything needed for you to have a good time (viagra if you cant get it up, toys if youre into that, some will allow BDSM), but you will always have to wear a condom.
I think it's always better to have stuff like this legal and out in the open, same as our marijuana policy, it just takes it out of the grey area where a lot of people can exploit others in the darkish grey areas. As for it taking 'the fun out of it', I don't think it does. People still walk into the prostitutes rooms with hands in front of their face and not wanting to be seen, it's still a little bit of a secret for everyone that goes there, it's not like you flaunt a 'prostitute pass' around stating how many times you've been.

I'm totally down for prostitution.  People are doing it anyway, so what health risk does it pose?  And why is prostitution high-risk and illegal but hook-ups aren't?  It has nothing to do with health or it would be illegal to arrange hookups on places like Craigslist.  I feel like people just use the health issue because it sounds better than a moral standpoint.

Also, I live in Japan now, which is really weird.  Anything is legal as long as you don't put a penis in a vagina.  Oral, hand jobs, and even anal are legal (gay buttsecks too!)

It should be legal. Everyone saying it shouldn't is because it would spread diseases, but that is not true. Prostitution will always be there, and if you want diseases to stop, you have to regulate it.

I think that legalization would bring a lot more moral stability into what seems a really natural human instinct of copulating as much as possible :)

It depends on how it's regulated.

It depends on how it's regulated.

^This. The problem with prostitution is that many girls are bought/sold/forced to have sex against their will. Trafficking of girls/women is a huge problem as well, especially those who are forced into it at a young age.

Legalize it so you can regulate it and keep those girls safe.  Prostitution is like abortion:  People are going to find a way to do it whether it's legal or not, so you might as well legalize it and make sure the people involved are protected by law.  I actually know someone who worked as a sex worker for a short amount of time, and you wouldn't believe how horrible the working conditions are.  People go "missing" all the time,  people aren't checked for STDs (not well, anyway), and even doctors are in on it to make a buck.  They check the girls out for their pimps, and agree not to go to the police as long as some of that money gets in their pockets.  It's horribly corrupt as it is now, and could use some government intervetion to keep pimps in line and discourage some johns from partaking at all.
