Hello!

It’s time for us to pre-release the next major Minecraft update, the Bountiful Update! This will bring Minecraft to version 1.8, and should be officially be published in the launcher on Tuesday, September 2. This is the update that to date has taken the longest time to create (over 300 days), and is the result of many, many changes.

These changes consist of both new features, and large game structure changes such as replacing the hard-coded “block renderer” with a system that is able to read block shapes from data files, or performance enhancements such as multi-threading the client-side chunk rendering. We hope you will enjoy it!

Will requiring Lapis for enchanting sort-of ruin the End Grinder a bit? :p I guess we'll just have to go there with a bunch of Lapis is all.

It will make it a less simple way to do enchanting, for sure, but enchanting will also be taking away fewer levels when you use it. Basically, EXP grinding just won't be as useful - but I think that's a good thing, balance-wise.

Redstone? You build incredible and complex machines to automate boring and repetitive tasks.

By looking up tutorials on YouTube.

Just 3 levels and 3 lapis for a level 30 enchant! AND you also get to know at least one of the enchants you'll get!

I believe you get to know one enchant ahead of time, and you may or may not get hidden extras.

It won't, to begin with.

The plan is to completely convert to vanilla this week so we can use 1.8 on Tuesday - at that point, we will be totally mod-less, and all our server settings will stay the same. Once we can add Bukkit back to the server, once Bukkit is updated, we will add WorldEdit and WorldGuard. This will allow us to turn mobGriefing back on (required for villager farming) while using WorldGuard to keep creeper explosions safe for our builds.

BREAKING UPDATE:

Server is now in 100% Vanilla mode :p Everything should be fine post-switcheroo, but let me know if anything has gone awry. I took an update snapshot immediately prior to making the change, so worst-case we can just roll back :)
