Losing functionality is not the same as getting damaged. The duct tape will still be intact. Plus, if the ducttape is on the roll or already attached to an object, the stickiness won't be affected by the water at all and protect the object it's attached to against water.

Review several definitions of damage. As long a definition of damage means losing functionality exists outside my mind and (the definition) is easily observable by another person, then I am at liberty to use it. If you said "can the mystery item be damaged by water using the definition from xyz (i.e. miriam webster)", then yes losing functionality is not the same as getting damaged. But I used whatever google pooped out. Specification is key for me to not play around with your answers.

 

I beg to differ. Humidity/water in general can still seep into the unprotected sides of duct tape and permeate they way in that way.

No I didn't miss that, my next guesses all had three words. I wasn't thinking about it when I wrote it though, but I didn't ask about duct tape afterwards because I thought if the answer would be duct tape, he would say 'yes'(but not 'correct') on my question (green tape) so then I would know the answer was duct tape..

if that makes any sense, my English is bad
