so earlier this year i've decided to raise a certain codexian's profile by giving them all my daily rep points for several days because i really like them. that turns out to be an abuse of my rep power and i got a lot of trouble over it. it sorta caught me off-guard when people started pointing it out because i didn't think it is but now that i think about it i guess it kkiinnnddaaa makes sense? lol. i apologized to the staff members and promised to give rep to people more responsibly.

so these days i try to spread the love to more people although i must admit i do have a group of people i tend to give rep to because they always posts funny shit like @Swarley, @ Frizzle , @Kelvin, etc etc... old habits die hard.

who do you find yourselves always give rep to? don't BS me i want real answers.

I just rep people or comments that make me laugh. Who they are tends to be irrelevant. Frequent poster will have higher odds of getting my rep. I will obligatory rep posts like guides, glitches, etc if the person worked hard, I found it useful, or if it contributes to the community as a whole.

I rarely give rep. I just don't think to do it. 

 

A lot of it is threads in the banned/warned section, sometimes it's contests, random things I agree with or find cool, supportive rep, and things having to do with me.

Hmm food for thought! I hadn't thought of it that way, but I can see how it might make things seem unbalanced. I take the opposite approach: once I realized that I tapped out at something like 2 reps per 24 hours I got stingy (ha!). I had an overactive "rep" clicker that I completely blame on Facebook (I've started clicking there less too, after learning that EVERYTHING I like gets spammed to other people.. what the crap is the difference between "like" and "share" then?)

 

I do still try to rep posts that either either immediately useful (I searched for the information and found it in someone's post) or something makes me legitimately laugh out loud. Before my Spring Semester Sabbatical (pff, grad school) I like to think I was pretty even with my reppings.

Other than that I find myself giving rep to some videos in that "what song are you listening to" to people with a good taste for music, because I consider that more than useful it's a public service.
