Yup. They added time last year too. They add time so signups are at a better time for TNT, because they're still probably setting everything up and need more time. Or they broke something and need time to fix it. Or both.

Well my plan of getting enough posts clearly didn't work. That said, I'm tempted to try to play legit anyway. I have exams going on, but sitting down for AC time every day could be a great study break.

Just hang around, get active and talk to people. The cup doesn't really start until usually a week, I believe, after signups. So you have another week to be able to get the posts needed to see the team. And you can still choose a team during that week. Just please don't spam. (underline is for emphasis on the no spam rule, it does not mean you yourself spam)
