So what's up with the lack of contests in the last few months? I know @DonValentino just set one up, so it's kind of a silly time to complain, but I'm not really familiar enough with random posts on codex to have anything good to enter. Is there ever gonna be another SOTW, customization or Photoshop contest (my favorite) again? It just seems like the last few that got run fell through and were never closed, and now there just isn't any.

Also how can we drum up more activity in general?

On a side note, am I the only one who finds it rather intimidating that most of the active threads are ENORMOUS? Like, it's very cool that we have posts with hundreds (or thousands) of replies, but I can't be the only person who simply finds them too daunting to enter. Like, the confession thread, for example. Made in 2014, nearly 4000 posts. Now of course that is amazing, and it's great that the thread is still so active, but (and maybe I'm the only one to look at it this way), I feel like it's just a massive barrier to newer users. When 80% of codex activity is on a handful of topics, the rest of the forum feels so sparse, and it just makes the site feel so dead. Like, no offense, but I don't have much interest in writing my confessions here - I'm just a private person. But so much of the community's activity is in that one thread. Or the "Something Good/Bad that happened to you" threads. It's cool for a little while, but am I the only one who feels like those threads have been beaten to death? A lot of the time I come on here and don't post anything at all because I feel out of the loop and uninterested in megathreads that have thousands of posts on one topic, and there's barely ever new topics posted. It took me a while to even decide if chit-chat was the right place to post this, because the whole first page is megathreads or AMA spam. And I feel like this lack of fresh, interesting threads is why the site is comatose outside 1000+ threads. It just feels like too much random stuff on one topic without any fresh discussions. I fully realise I'm largely just complaining here there's no topics that interest me much while simultaneously not posting any new topics of interest, but I'm uncreative. I dunno, I guess I just wanted to post my thoughts on it. Does anyone agree or am I just rambling?

We could do another gaming contest/competition (basically we choose some games, and you get a prize and a special award if you win), we usually do online cards against humanity, pokemon showdown...I can't remember the rest. We used to have the crafting contest, but very few participated, so we don't do that anymore. We did have a SOTW contest, but I'm unsure of what is going on with that. We could run another pokemon showdown competition if anyone is willing to host it. I think we had a minecraft design competition, but I'm not sure, and if we did I have no idea what happened to it.

The about a boy/girl could be restarted, the last time we did it was in September.

The caption contest seems to have disappeared, so we could restart that.

Chit-chat is kind of the area where things that don't fit anywhere else go.

I honestly feel like having a giant thread isn't necessarily a bad idea. I feel that having a big thread allows you to post without worrying that you said something completely stupid as much (as users might fear saying something weird in a new thread?)

As for customization contest, I could most likely host one this weekend but I've been busy with school so I'll try sometime.

And yeah I kinda would like a pokemon showdown contest because I always find those fun and inviting for newer players. ( @Romy )

I ran the last Customization contest in December, as well as Themed Writing Contest in December, but I don't think any of the winners wanted to host the next one. I also provided prizes for all the winners in both contests so I didn't want to run anymore after those because I am still a newbie on my NP account so I didn't have that much to offer as is, otherwise, I love hosting contests!!!

I have been pregnant since September so my energy for coming up with new threads or running more contests is low right now. I literally do my school work and sleep. I try to stay active on here, but it's mostly in my 9 Months and Counting thread because all the other threads do seem daunting and like I am out of the loop, just as you said! I did question the activeness of the site a while back, and apparently, unless it's AC season, it's usually dead on here. I also think since Slack was introduced as another form of communication, it really hindered the activeness on here.

I do miss the activeness and always having a contest or 4 going. I always participated in them. I do miss the contests as well but it's finding someone who wants to host them is the hard part. I really miss Draw That Scribble and the SOTW competition.

We were in the middle of the Neocodex Biggest Loser Contest and it fell off the face of the earth which is disappointing to me as I worked hard for that contest. It's sad to see a contest disappear before it even finishes, when there was so much hype for it.

Sounds cool! I know a lot of the contests had kind of low activity when they were last run, but I still think people enjoy them when they are run. If someone were to run a photoshop contest I'd 100% take part again :) I'd run it myself, but like I said I really wanna enter it :p

I guess there's kinda two sides to the megathread thing. Maybe I should just stop overthinking it and check them out more often, I suppose.

I understand that about prizes, it can definitely add up fast if you run a lot of contests. On that thought though, are there any good non-neopets prizes people can think of? I'm sure a lot of people do like neopoints and NC still, but I think a lot of people on codex are already kinda rich from botting or just don't play neo as often anymore. Personally, I just join contests for the user awards onsite :p Suppose I should look into hosting a contest soon too. Also yeah, the biggest loser thing is a shame. That seems to be an unfortunate outcome a lot of the time - contests just disappear before closing. I feel like if the host disappears someone else should take over - ideally a mod or someone in power of some sort.

Definitely interested! I've been playing a ton of Showdown lately, and I have a solid Normal Monotype team (that I use for a gym on a really mini other forum) so I'd love some more challengers, if you're looking for a gym leader :) Or if you're not looking for a leader, I've been meaning to make a new OU team to challenge with anyway. Edit: And I have ghost and bug monos too! Also I'd be down to make a different monotype team, been interested in steel/poison/fighting monos lately. Just love the monotype meta.

I love doing contests for the awards, not the prizes! And I only play Neopets, so those are the only prizes I can offer hahaha.

As a note/idea, since we've had winners who don't want to hold the next contest, and so the contest dies: If a winner does not wish to host the next contest, the creator of the original contest should host the next one. If they don't want to host it, then anyone can host it. That way contests just don't die because someone didn't want to host one.

For prizes we can do: neopets items/money/NC/ect, FR treasure/gold/items/dragons/ect, Steam Codes, Xbox live codes...ect. Pretty much anything can be donated as a prize to a contest.

We could also try another 100 post day.

I agree with most of your post. I really miss the active times.

On the megathreads, I'm not sure if your were already here before they moved, but those 3 used to be on gen chat, then staff decided to move it to chit-chat, because people were basically only posting there, and being in chit-chat your post cpint doesn't go up, so less people (mostly New users looking to raise post count) would post on those and increase activity on different threads.

I think one of the reasons the activity dropped a lot was the downfall of neopets, as much as I hate to say that. I feel like even non-neopets players would come here more when it still had fun events, because they would bring neo players, increasing activity on all the areas of the forum (not only neo related). It's all TNT's fault smh

I was hosting contests but had zero entries, or single entries, so I stopped hosting and then life got in the way. It happens.

But by all means, feel free to host stuff and find creative ways to encourage activity. Just scroll through the contest thread and find one that hasn't been done in awhile and copy/paste the format, and come up with a theme, or come up with a new contest of your own.

I joined here relatively late and I have to agree with you. It seems that have missed the golden age of this forums, when it was most active. However, I don't think it bothers me as much, but perhaps it would if I was here for a longer amount of time. It is probably due to Neopets in general, with the fall of TNT and the rise of Jumpstart, I mean, look at Club Penguin....while you can.

Anyone who hosts a contest and needs prizes, let me know! I'm happy to donate a few neopets prizes to contests for the sake of livening up codex.

I'd be down to donate more prizes too (I have 50m~ on neopets and I don't play much anymore) but I'm still kinda paranoid about delivering the prizes to people as all my NPs are on my main. The advice I got last time was just to make a side account? I suppose the double transfer should be safe?

It has been quite quiet around here lately... though I only just come out of lurking myself - haven't had internet in a few months (gigantic pain in the arse!). I'm going to try to be more active! ...once my current computer troubles get sorted out. More contests would be excellent, and more threads in general, really...

If I still had accounts to donate NPs and other prizes, I'd participate more, but since the AC Frosting of 16, I've lost interest and motivation.

If I have time, I can participate in some contests.

Honestly, I just don't have the time to read walls of text. I skimmed through your post but I didn't actually read it. Not out of disrespect, but because I don't have the time. Make a simple contest and I'll always try to participate. But if I enter a contest thread and I see a bible of text, I leave. :(
