As someone who worked in the Amusement Park industry for 6 years, this is super scary.

Let it be known, amusement parks are held to a much higher standard in ride checks and maintenance. Next time you complain about a ride being closed for maintenance, remember that safety is more important than a few minutes of enjoyment.

Isn't there a major park accident like every year?

It reminds me a bit of one of our roller coasters, the Phantom's Revenge. Every day, at least once, it'll get stuck trying to go up the first hill. We've had it for years and you think by now that we'd have fixed it so it doesn't do that. Maintenance can only do so much with what they have. I'm terrified of heights, so I tend to stay away from rides like that.

Condolences to the family of the one killed, and hopefully those who were injured will recover quickly.

Yes yes many condolences to the families involved.

I dunno, amusement parks in general have better, more strict guidelines. I trust amusement parks way more than fairs or travelling carnivals.

It kind of looks like it was too low and hit the metal at the bottom? I can't tell.

The are trying to figure out if the floor air compressor went out. If that happens, the floor goes to up position, where people can get on and off the ride. If that air compressor platform gave out, then yes the floor was too high/ arm of the ride was too low. But I am not even sure if it is an air compressed ride or hydrolics. I have a bunch of friends who have more information but can't release it yet. They can only go into greater detail with me once the news airs the minor details.

It made me feel an overwhelming sadness to see it and the aftermath! I am sad for them too, I totally know money isn't going to settle their grief, but unfortunately that's all the state will most likely do to try and ease their pain. Kinda sad in my eyes, but man I can't imagine being in their shoes.

That would leave you with horrible nightmares even just seeing it.  Sorry to the family's I hope it was just a horrible accident and not a human error.

It was indeed NOT human error. Thankfully. Well... if you want to get technical though, it was since humans made the ride.... and humans rode the ride.... *scratches head*

YIkes. I really do not trust Fairground rides like this. I LOVE amusement parks. Been to magic mountain like 20 times. Cedar point only a couple times, but I think those are the best in the country. And yes, I do always think "what if this ride breaks, would I live" And most of them are yes answers, some are absolutely no way in hell

I don't ride rides at fairs or traveling carnivals etc but will always ride rides at amusement parks as I feel much safer on the rides. At least with Cedar Point, from working there 6 years, I know the scrutiny the rides are gone through every single day. They don't play around. Cedar Point is ranked the most safest park and does not have a death toll due to rides or ride malfunctions.

I definitely don't have an issue with theme park rides they are pretty safe. I mean some have been there for years and haven't had any issues. I have always heard about the ride at travelling carnivals/fairs being super dangerous though I still love to ride them. Totally going to think twice now, it just really scary to think about! I love getting drunk, going to fairs, eating anything fried and riding rides hopefully this was just a freak accident and never happens to anyone. Thinking about these families for sure.

Yeah the fairs in my town usually have decent live bands and they never disappoint when it comes to food!!! Plus the vendors that are there are pretty awesome. They usually have a rock climbimg wall as well I like to try and climb.
