My debate question is:

Do you Believe in God?

I was a faithful Christian, but I am now beggining to have doubts. The Big Bang and evolution seems like a more reasonable explantation and it has more proof.

Evolution Proof

*fossil record
*comparison of skeletal structures in related species
*comparison of embryos
*DNA

There is no proof for God and He just doen't make sense to me. How could he be there if no one created him? How could he have always been here?

Yep I believe in God. But I also put high emphasis on science. Thats why I think that if God really did create the world and everything around it, then science should be in perfect harmony with what God has said. It is that way for me smile.gif.

Question. Where did the entire universe come from? If every planet and every star starts out as particals, where did the particals come from? If there was nothing before the universe, where did the atoms that created the particals come from?

By the way I do believe in God. Nothing could be if it were not so.

Islam makes it so much easier to have that union though...

I have my own way of believing in god.. it's quite simple. I believe in him for hope. Take death for example, I don't want to believe that nothing happens once we're dead, I wanna believe that we go somewhere better.. so I believe in that, but somethings like virgin mary and whatever that make no scientific sense are just too weird for me. I also believe for prayer. I pray pretty regularly for, once again, hope.

Yes I do. I think God created the universe but chooses not to interfere with our lives. I won't write more since I'm relatively ignorant in the subject. Gimme a decade or so tongue.gif

Well, I'm just saying that that's how I believe it should be tongue.gif. You guys can take what you want from it tongue.gif. But yea, Islam does make it pretty easy tongue.gif. Even though the Qur'an isnt a book of science, it has some scientific miracles for those who look. I don't think its just the Qur'an though, I think the Bible and the Torah and all previous religions of God have miracles in their holy texts...just that the text's got corrupted through man's interference over time. But that's just me tongue.gif. Like I said, take what you want from it tongue.gif.

I believe in God.

Simple reasoning: This world is brutal, and no thing so brutal could have been possibly made by something other than a being higher than us.

I think that god is a host of our universe, that we are extremely tiny beings inside a larger being. Just like how there are billions of living things inside of us.

I also absolutely hate what religion can do to people and countries.
Wouldn't it be more accurate to say that its the people who follow that religion? Furthermore, if you looked closely enough, you would find that those examples are from people who don't really understand their religion and do things in its name...giving it a bad name...

Just my take on it tongue.gif.

I believe in God, but not necessarily all of the Bible's teachings. The Bible was written by men, in some cases many, many years later. I think about religion and what I believe in other instances and how it relates to God a lot. I pray regularly, and as Alias said, I dont only believe in God or pray when I am in trouble, I pray for others and their lives also. I think that me as well as everyone else has to have something to believe in and have hope for, as opposed to just looking at everything scientifically.

I also agree. God made science. I don't think Genisis is exactly correct about how the earth was created. I think it was a myth.

I like to clarify that I completely and totally agree with the entire context of the Bible and that God did create everything that exists to this day, and that his Son did die on the cross to redeem us for our sins and that He rose from the dead to reign in heaven.
Even this:
QUOTE
DEUTERONOMY 22:13-21
If it is discovered that a bride is not a virgin, the Bible demands that she be executed by stoning immediately.

DEUTERONOMY 22:22
If a married person has sex with someone else's husband or wife, the Bible commands that both adulterers be stoned to death.

MARK 10:1-12
Divorce is strictly forbidden in both Testaments, as is remarriage of anyone who has been divorced.

LEVITICUS 18:19
The Bible forbids a married couple from having sexual intercourse during a woman's period. If they disobey, both shall be executed.

MARK 12:18-27
If a man dies childless, his widow is ordered by biblical law to have intercourse with each of his brothers in turn until she bears her deceased husband a male heir.

DEUTERONOMY 25:11-12
If a man gets into a fight with another man and his wife seeks to rescue her husband by grabbing the enemy's genitals, her hand shall be cut off and no pity shall be shown her.

Christianity teaches hate and intolerance. Careful! Step out of line and he'll smite you! Seriously, I don't see the point of living in fear.

Eh, most Christians try to push their religion on everyone that they meet, they go out in hordes complaining about their lack of rights and such, which is funny, considering we live in a predominantly Christian-based society.

Buddhism is the only religion that I'd actually consider being a part of - although it's not really a religion, it's more of a way of life. But right now I'm a atheist.

I don't know how slopdog works but over here we don't make generalizations and such distasteful posts about others' beliefs. If you quote out of context, you can make someone say anything you want them to say. Neo_grl did it to me many times tongue.gif.

I believe that Christianity is also a religion of God. It was sent to the Jewish people who had deviated from the original teachings of Prophets and Messengers sent to them before. I also believe that Jesus is the Jewish Messiah or the final Prophet sent to the Jews. But hey thats just me tongue.gif.

Yes I do believe in god and you know what..God helps with the creation of science to make mankind life better, not to prove that whether god exist or not.

I definately believe in something, because in my own head I always think of some creator that oversees it all. But I don't believe in God in the sense that he made the world in 7 days and all that, to me whatever there is that's out there made the world as science shows it to be. So instead of there being another way to think how the world came about, what I believe there to be is just behind the scientific way. Made sure the big bang happened at the right time in the right place, that sort of thing.

So yeah, I believe that there's something out there, I don't know whether or not I believe it's God.

I dunno. I kind of do. I do have my doubts sometimes. And some of the ways religious people act, absolutely disgust me, which pushes me further from wanting to believe in the same stuff as them.

But, I do believe in a higher being I guess.
