QFE
Advanced members get a lot of goodies. Not really for or against that idea but just saying...We'd get a lot more spam.

When I was a member here, I didn't need a tag to display my importance to everyone because this was done in the form of making programs and content for the site. In my opinion, importance is derived from how much of a difference you make on the site and not your post count.
Therefore, these changes will probably prove to be a futile attempt in capturing the interests of the regular member because a tag isn't going to have much impact in the end. Feeding their interests and keeping them interested in what the site has to offer will do a much better job of this.
This reminds me of an attempt made by some other site that had "Member Level 1", "Member Level 2", "Member Level 3", etc. Perhaps the members at level three have a bigger e-penis and a power level that is over 9000? They didn't have much more than that going for themselves though.
If anything, we should be downsizing and simplifying ranks so that our currently fucked up bureaucracy isn't so confusing to the ordinary person anymore.

this is one of the most convincing argument i have read in this thread. ANyway people will leave as well when they found somewhere else to go to. If not, they will still stay.

It'd mean we ended up with something like:
Staff: Blue
GFX: Aqua
Programming/tech: Green
Contest: Purple
Member: Red
Ezine: Different purple (probably should be yellow since it's what news team was and we don't use yellow for much)
Private: Different blue
Retired: Gold
Rather than the multitude of shades and different tags we have now. It'd simplify things greatly, while still recognising the teams and their leaders properly.
Oh, and there is most definitely a marked different in how members are treated compared to advanced. And advanced is done just by post count. An intermediate rank isn't going to make people spam to get 250 posts, because a) they'd just have the post count decreased, and b) there's nothing to get at the intermediate rank...
It's a stepping stone rank to encourage integration and ensures those with the rank have a little more voice than before.
Take a look in GC, member topics get maybe half the replies that an established member would despite what the topic is discussing. Members do get ignored more. But to see someone with a slightly better rank, they might just get a little more attention. Too many people up and leave this place because they feel ignored and treated badly. This is a possible way of improving this situation.
Whoever said many members would have voted for an intermediate rank believing they'd get programs... that's a fair point, they well could have, but it's also something they want to see on the site. Members make up a fair portion of our member base and yet only a tiny majority post. With incentive, even small ones, this could change. How will we know unless it's attempted?
At any rate, if it doesn't work out, and there's nothing stopped us from removing the ranks at a later stage
Oh yes, I see where you're coming from about the shade, but to be fair, say contest leader and team member shared the same colour purple, who is going to want to use the colour that's freed up? No one, because it's too close to contest anyway. I didn't misunderstand you, I just neglected to explain myself properly, which for some reason was a conscious decision, I guess I like being awkward.
I'm not denying a marked difference in the way members treated, what I'm saying is the people that mistreat members because they're just members are generally old members, therefore are not going to recognise a new rank shoved between advanced as something to respect the newer members by, Cata for one has already admitted that much.
Whatever, you're right, it can be removed if it doesn't work out. I just don't understand how when half the active admin appear to disapprove and when we've had topics geared towards chopping out ranks/tags we can draw this conclusion (that seems to have been greeted with nothing bit disapproval). But meh, no use debating it, neither of us are about to agree with the other.

Iunno, after seeing the objections, I'm pretty much ready to axe it and just LOL CLOSED this thread and pretend it never happened. I didn't see all of the staff topic about it, so I hadn't realized the disagreements on the issue.

Which is exactly why I object to us rewarding post count.

Ugh, I don't care anymore. Add the new ranks, don't add the new ranks, whatever. I still don't see why it warranted such huge arguments.

I'm personally not fussed if it happens or not in all honesty. I do like adhering to the majority, which, I thought the poll represented. And I do believe there are advantages to trying this out as I have argued already. But if there is so much objection (albeit by those who are unaffected by the change) then it doesn't have to happen.
Oh I also wanted to say it's something that bothers me as well that things get discussed in staff but no one is able to go through with them. I've been waiting on admin go ahead to just bring up a poll or discussion topic for changes to the flame and flamebait rules and report systems for a while now. In fact, I might just start a discussion on it anyway. No harm in seeing what people think about it.
Don't get me wrong, I *know* you 4 are busy, and codex isn't the be all and end all to your lives. I am not getting at you for that, not even close. I just wish things were different sometimes.
Eh, like I said, whatever. .

I know, because it bothers me too that the site is hindered because of it.
The truth of the matter is: I've been done exams for two weeks now. I've simply been choosing not to show my face here. Now, I already know that I have not been doing my job, but I also know that admins who do not do their job or are sick of their jobs (like I suppose I am right now) should not be admins. (I know that this wasn't what you were getting at, but its a self-realization that I have come across in the last few weeks).
Because of this, I may as well reveal to everyone that I am considering taking on a lesser role here at Neocodex. I've talked to a few people about this on MSN already, but I may as well state it now since I haven't really been showing my face much here lately. Note that this isn't some attempt at drama because this has been a serious consideration of mine lately, seeing as nothing is really getting done by me and I'm starting to get pooped out with dealing with people and doing the whole admin thing.

I think this is different, Ali. When I've said it before, it was because of some kind of argument or I was pissed off at something. This time, I'm just downright tired of the entire thing, and I find that I'm busier with a lot of other things now.

Oh you make me a sad kitten. I can't be bothered to go find a photo of a sad kitten to illustrate this. We must chatter on MSN sometime soon. We never chatter anymore.

LOL.. It resembles the kitty from those toilet paper commercials..... except those kitties are happy.
Sure thing.... however, we're in very awkward timezones and I have a 9 hour workday usually where I'm not at home.

Yeah, but I do nothing with my life because my degree is easy and it's verrrry nearly summer. Plus I'm a Creature of the Night, proven by the fact that it's 6.15am and I still haven't slept.

Well, then timezones are not an issue then. However, I need some sleep because it's nearing midnight soon and I have work at 8am the next day.

Before you do take your "lesser role" on codex, please, please, forward the stuff I sent you over MSN to the rest of you staff monkeys, as from where I'm sitting, it looks like jack-shit has been done about it so far.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
