I'm not sure if this has been posted before, or if people even care, but I figured better safe than sorry right?
I was looking around for an attic autobuyer and I ended up in the darkztar forum. I think it was this one anyway. They have a program that copies neopets usernames from the boards and auctions and then automatically tries to guess the passwords. It kind of made me mad, so yeah.

That's on almost every cheating forum. Only forum I can be sure that does not have that program is Neocodex. They are kind of cute aren't they :)

Yeah, I noticed in my searching. Made me wary of going to the boards though XD

Easy solution? Don't use "password" or "abc123" like an idiot would.

They also collect account names from places like the high scores lists too so it's pretty likely that at some point you'll end up on one of those lists, just make sure you have a strong password and pinned account and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the heads up - never seen one of those lists, would be interested to know if I was on it.

wow I never heard of this before, so maybe this is how people are getting hacked and calling it cg, possibly?
Yay more joy to add to paranoia of getting frozen/hacked.

I've seen these. The default passwords they try are like neopets11, neopets12, neopets101, password11,password12, password101, and the like. Just don't make it obvious and you'll be fine.

Another thing to be careful about is when signing up to Neopets help sites and forums (Jellyneo, thedailyneopets etc) to use a completely different password to any of your other accounts. If you use the same password then it's possible for people to exploit those help sites and gain access to their database then they can use the information from there to gain access to other accounts like emails, Neopets etc.

It's not being hacked, as nobody is altering any kind of system, all they do is run a program with account names and a list of common passwords and hope it cracks something.

I see. Well I think my pass is safe for now.
Yeah i don't trust JN/TDN at all, never made an account on those sites yet.
I was tempted to at times just to check out the full site lol.

JN and TDN are pretty safe :p IT's the people hacking them into hash lists that can't be trusted

so it means some sites will guess and break into your neopets account?O_o
no wonder I often need to wait for an hour before logging into my old account... (my old account was rather a famous one, in fact)

I don't know if you're joking or not, but you probably need to change that.
And if it's real and some people here know your account(s) you're fucked haha.

Edit: Oh shit, 500 POST. CHYEE.

ahhh the power of 500+ posts = allowed to spam (but not actually :p

I really hope that your password isn't password12 :p Although if it were mine it wouldn't be a problem since my account is so unknown (except for a few high score tables I guess :p)

I'd be highly amused to see if my account was on any lists - I'd be willing to bet it's not as it's pretty lame xD
