Try not to stress it too much because I'm sure your fiance is feeling horrible right about now. I would feel so guilty, even if it wasn't my fault.
btw, your homeowners insurance will cover it no matter where it was lost. Most personal items (even cell phones, purses, cash in your wallet, laptop) are covered no matter where they're lost/stolen.

Oh lord, now I'm paranoid about my Kashmir sapphire falling out. I really hope she finds it. That jeweler should be held liable, imo.
