lol i've downloaded many things from there, all safe so far. just don't download if you think it's suspicious, easy peasy

Comments are your key to knowing whether or not files are safe. Sometimes you're better off knowing how to pick your battles, though. mp3s and video files are generally safe, but take the time to scan exes yourself.
