Coyotes don't generally attack animals close to a house, but a spotlight, firearm, and informing your local game warden probably wont hurt.

Alternatively you can just take the cat inside.

i'd recommend you take it inside or you risk getting your cat killed like what happened to my neighbor's cat. Damn coyotes made a bloody mess on MY front lawn.
