My Dad low-key called me stupid/slow and recommended me going to a different Community college because I failed one course. So encouraging.

Do not discount that he might just want for you to prove him wrong, that he hopes so much that you will prove him wrong. Or, he's just mad and does not know any better than by trying to defuse part of his anger by making you feel bad. People do that.

Chappy, a truth I have learned recently, sometimes these words come out of my mouth and they're the same bad advice that I heard from my mother and stepfather. Yet, still I say the same thing to my daughter. I think, we're bound by the chains of the past way too much. I had to tell my daughter that is wasn't so much about learning what was important, as making the teacher happy. How can I say something that I disagreed with so much.
