Thinking about switching to Diablo III as my game of choice for enjoyment as well as USD. Practical? Anyone played the others in the series?

Also, I've played both D1 and D2. D1 is more similar to this game, in that it has a ton of references back to it and the quests are supposed to be randomized. D2 was more static (although like D1, the world maps would still randomly generate so you never played the exact same layout twice) and made it so you could actually outrun shit, but took away random quests. It also had somewhat less humor, I think.

I preferred D2 mostly because it's a bit more of a steady upward curve to complete the game. I don't mean to say it was easy, but Diablo was a brutal fuckin' game.
