The only thing worse than friends is not having friends. If they don't have a good excuse then insist they make a contribution in your name/buy some beer/streak nekkid through the quad.

The real question is why didn't they show. Perhaps something came up and they had to miss it. I personally wouldn't expect my friends to show just so they wouldn't feel obligated to attend and miss something better that comes along. If they show, I can be that much happier with them.
