Why do we still pay so much for these shitty calculators?

Why do Texas Instrument products NEVER drop in price? Their calculators are overpriced shit and its not like they're even improving them. Its the same hardware inside of them that has been depreciating in value but the calculators have still retained their insanely high price tags!

For the price of a Texas instrument calculator, you could almost buy a fucking notebook, Zune or iPod touch.

Honestly, I think that these guys are badass with their marketing campaign. With the help of teachers, they've spread so much FUD about calculators of other brands. "Don't buy their shit! They might fail on you!"

While the prices of these calculators remain ridiculously high, other, more useful products have dropped in price!

LCD and LED TVs and monitors are now dirt-cheap. Quad core rigs are now $400 or so.

Apple, also, is a brand that seems to be indifferent to technology becoming cheaper. $1000 for a dual core desktop!

WTF is this?

Yeh it's really retarded. Over the past 30 years the drop in price is ridiculously low. I got my TI83+ for $50 from a friend, otherwise I would've paid $200 at the store.

I guess the same reason textbooks are still expensive as fuck, they know a lot of people are going to be forced to pay for it.

That's why it's always a good idea to look on ebay. I got my TI 83+ for about 50 euros, and my brother got his for only 30.

Cheapest way to get texas instrument graphing calculators:

    Go into my university
    Wait till 8:00 PM
Pick up the 2 calculators left behind from all the lecture halls that require these calculators
    pawn
    profit

Just install an emulator on your computer... or get one secondhand. No one says you have to buy retail.

My school requires either the TI83 or 84, I think..? Some sort of graphic calculator. For 30 dollars extra, I decided to buy the TI-inspire, as the labeling made me believe it was somesort of super computer designed to do your work for you. I still don't understand how to use it, and whenever I turn it on for a test, I want to cry.

The TI Inspire sucks. It's horrible for graphic. Our school bought thousands of those and we don't even use them in my math class, we use the old calculators.

High schools probably still require them instead of a computer because of cheating.

    They are expensive though.

    someone else will :p

Yeah, I used an iClicker, a UofT psych prof taught
at my school and they all use that.

Your reference is itself a reference to an older work of science fiction. A Mentat is a human computer. In other words, a human with the capability to do lightening quick calculations of probability, resolvability, and analytic deduction.

I did play Fallout, but I started with 3 :p

I almost missed this post hidden among all the others.

    But...

Apple really do overcharge for outdated hardware. Not only is Apple proprietary, they are MORE EXPENSIVE than other proprietary companies such as Dell and hp FOR THE SAME FRIGGIN PARTS. The common defense for Apple is their software which can be argued to be better based on personal preference, but that does not justify Apple's shady business practices. If you want to run OSX, build a hackintosh.

Disassemble and Apple computer and take a good look at the parts. Search them on newegg.com and you will find the find the identical parts for much less. Sometimes they will not even be there, since newegg does not sell very outdated hardware.

As far as I'm concerned, having a different "slick" case is not worth this substantial markup either.

Look at the iPhone 4, this thing is extremely overpriced without a plan, deliberately done to force people into plans that will take $2-3k in 3 years.

Apple is far worse than Microsoft when it comes to being completely closed off, structured far more like a totalitarian society than any company I can think of. With its army of egotistical faithfuls, this company still tries to pass off as a company of "innovation." Of course, the press also sucks Apple's dick.

I've witness way more hate that comes FIRST from OSX users aimed at Windows users. For some strange reason using an Apple product makes you better than everyone else?

    Dude, it's fukin' electronics.

I have a Mac, and everyday I want to smash it's crashing ass.

    ---

On a scale of evilness, Apple ranks higher than textbook companies and Texas Instruments.
