So my friend and I got into this argument a while ago about which side (First World or Second World Countries) was responsible for starting the Cold War.

I blamed it on USA's aggressive foreign policy (Truman Doctrine, Containment Policy, and NATO to an extent). He blamed the Soviets, Stalin didn't hold up his end of bargain from the Yalta Conference and Soviet expansionism.

So neocodex, who do you think started the Cold War? Discuss plox

Don't mean to be rude here, honest... but who the fuck cares who started a war that was really only a war in name? O_o (Unless I'm grossly uneducated on the subject at hand, which may actually be the case on this one..)

Might have been a war in name only but it almost led to a nuclear war and say massive enlargements of government secrecy/surveillance/military expenditure

Anyways I'd say that no one's really to blame for it starting, two superpowers with such conflicting ideologies and ambitions to be the sole superpower was all that was needed rather than an act done by a country

But I'd say the bulk of the escalation can be blamed on Stalin

Well, how do you decide who started a war that was a war in name only? Nobody spilled the first blood shed... I mean... what do you use to determine it? They built the first nuclear weapon, so they started a "war" where I built a bunch, too!

Maybe I'm just being cynical, but I really don't see how it is even remotely important who started the Cold War.

No offense meant to you, OP (Original Poster). I really am not trying to be an asshole, I just don't get it. O_o

Fucking yanks! Don't even know how they started a war!

Seriously, Cody, bro. I love ya, ya like a bro to me but keep it quiet ;)

Well there was no direct fighting between the US and Russia but they used their puppets to test out things, similar to Germany and Russia prior to WW2. Russia was obviously trying to make countries communist, like China for example which led to this example being used in Veitnam. It was basically US vs. communism, which is why the US fought so hard in the war, even though it was pointless and for nought. Other examples include the Berlin blockade and the Korean war, don't forget if the Cuban Missle Crisis pulled through the world we live in now would be much different.

As to who I would say started the war... I have no opinion, both countries are equally to blame for this. The rest of the world will say the US though ;)

You are licking/hugging a snow penis. Clearly this means you're wrong about the US and the USSR is to blame

US started the cold war because they considered socialism a threat to the capitalism (and it was) and the URSS as an threat to it's hegemony (and it was).
But both of them can be equally blamed for the wars that happened because of it.
