Hey guys

So I was just thinking to myself that it's probably about time to revive the old codex, such as the sections we had and also the user groups. A little about myself, I do consider myself a Codex lurker and don't post as much as I should and also the fact my post quality isn't the best either which makes me not legible to post this, though its just a suggestion. Yes, it should be in the suggestions section though I'm posting it here because that section turned into a suggestion place for programs which none of the high quality members care about so it won't be viewed as much in my opinion and also I'm looking for the older members opinion though knowingly I know someone is going to spam in here to get their 500 posts like they do in many of the other threads, but that doesn't matter.. As many of the old members here have said, codex has changed and it isn't really satisfying as it should be - or at least what Bryan said :p

Everyday when I log into codex, it seems like I'm repeating the day before. I see the same topics in the same sections. The only sections I do view, and possibly many others view is General Chat, Neopets General Chat, and the trading post. As bryan stated in his opinion, many members who are here to spam to 500 and leave are the ones who don't want to show their personality as much, this goes as entering the IRC or not having an avatar and signature. Well as many other boards do have, we should have as well.

Cleaning Up

We're in 2011, I'm suprised no one hit the "Altador Cup IV 09'" section as far as post count raising goes. I don't know if you guys keep this for purposes such as remembering shit, though I don't see any other point to have it. Maybe its just because I don't play Neopets. I don't know about other sections but I guess those can be cleared up.

Adding Usergroups

GFX Team

Well as of bryan stated about avatars and signatures, why don't we help new users on our board by designing an avatar and signature for them? Just like old days we can build up an advanced GFX team, and I'm sure much of us are eager to learn how to photoshop. I still remember back in 06' we had a tutorial section created by members to help beginners out.

Neopets Contest Team

As I, and many others don't give a rats ass about neopets as much today, I don't mind running up my autobuyer on an account 3 months+ in shops that generate decent profit per item. We should create a contest team to get new members posting and participating in activities to show them around and board - such as hosting some in the IRC so no one thinks argue is going to eat them if they do enter :p

Because I was really young when I joined, my memory is very vague about other sections codex offered to the community - though these are some I know will get the community started up and running some what like old times.

Discuss - Do you agree with the fact we should add these sections and which could help us generate an 'old' codex again, or do you think it's pointless and waste of our time? Do you have any other suggestions on what we could do to improve the community? What are your opinions on this (Older members mainly).

Bringing back the sections we've lost won't "revive the old codex".

    It's lost.
    We're over it.

The reasons those usergroups don't exist now is they weren't being used. It's like the ezine, we've only tried that ooh, about 5 times.

They'll be created (again), they'll have a period of a couple of months where they'll be extremely active and then they'll become dead forums again. Then we'll delete them.

Then in a year or so, somebody will bring this up allllll over again.

Here is a real problem: People shitpost too much and the current mods just coddle them and because of that the problem has been getting worse over time. To eradicate this menace we need a mod team that will delete said posts without giving a fuck what people think of them.

Because no one is trying to keep them alive. :whistling: Such as for the contest team, I don't plan to be playing Neopets any longer, and same as other members. I don't mind running my autobuyer two hours a day to give items away, and I don't see a reason why I should stop.

Okay there we go. We got a suggestion admins can look over, a moderator team. We have some pretty trusted members on this site which could turn this community around. Naming some on top of my head which aren't admins to my knowledge is iArgue, Scot, Georgina, Bryan, Random (thats all I can think of who I remember off of my head).

A mod team...there's another thing we don't have any more.

Are you joking? People like Steph put in so much work desperately trying to keep GFx alive. Michie kept going on Contest. But eventually you have to accept that it's flogging a dead horse...All these sections had dedicated leaders who put a fair amount of effort in but the prolonged interest just isn't there.

Again, the need for a mod team just isn't as great as it was in the past. :/

Maybe they died because we lost members members who engaged in those sections due to real life? As SL64 stated we're more active then the years we had before. New people doesn't mean everything will be the same. This board is like black and white, I see the same colors for users everyday. Now Im not saying we should color code everyone like we're as kids, but it would definitely do something in my opinion.

Possibly we can even send a Mass E-mail to all old members wishing them a happy new year and asking them to rejoin?

I still remember back when we lost you, Ali, as an admin. I can slightly remember there was some chaos. Though this happens to everyone.

As much as I like this idea, you can't build something if it's not there. If it is there, then it should form naturally. We shouldn't be making groups and things just to force activity. In all honesty, the community creates itself. Yes, we have more active posts per day then we used to, and from what I've seen we cater to them just fine by providing programs. It died because like all forum members, we've grown up and our interests have changed. The only people still on here are just really bored or started the site.

Listen, I don't want anyone to misconstrue what I'm saying. The old Codex is gone for a reason. I don't want it back and I don't think anything we're going to do is gonna bring it back. I just don't like what is currently happening, mainly because our administration is too busy with school and professional work to be as active as they were 5 years ago. Instead of active administration within the community, the only time I really see them is when they're closing a reported post or posting something about downtime. I'm not saying it's the fault of anyone, stuff happens naturally you know. In all honesty, nothing could change and I probably wouldn't care, as soon as I graduate and find a job, I doubt I'll be coming on Codex anymore. It's just a way to pass the time because I've been using it as a way to pass time for the past 5 years.

But hey, don't let me be a debbie downer. I'm not gonna hate on any ideas. Admin. has done a great job keeping this site alive for as long as it's been. And for that, I thank you guys. Anything else is just icing on the cake.

Yes that would be an excellent start. We need a Good Cop/Bad Cop balance not just good cops.

    Pbrm is another good choice.

Okay well we established from what you're saying theres no way we can revive the old codex, nor does anyone want it back. But I still think it's healthy for the community if we start up some groups again just for fun, not reviving.

Very very thought out post and good intention and motivation and so much more, plus rep.
Lots of that can't happen. We learned from the past that contest teams just lead to mass icings and we don't want to see that.

What if we look at what we did wrong in the past? Such as announcing the prizes public? We can do it through PM.

I know I haven't been around but I think that these days - people come and go only to play neopets. They don't really stay and chat or try to get to know people. With that being said, I don't approve of the contest thingy.
If you're going to have that,
a.) you're probably going to have a few idiots who want to win it but don't really want to contribute so you get a lot of stupid spam
b.) a system that rewards community members for talking to other community members (what?)

To be honest, I think a lot of what was said is right. Try as we all might - a lot of new people are here for one of three reasons to either get their stupid post up so they spam constantly, to get on the trading post and buy/sell what they need and return to their reclusive lifestyle when they're done and to get answers to problems

I think that if older member keep posting interesting stuff, they will undoubtedly draw the attention of some intelligent newcomers. Yeah, you'll probably get a lot more spam posts and what not until you hit a member who actually wants to contribute but that's the way it's going to be.

That idea about forum mods would really help out. Who care if people dislike the fact that their posts are being voided and deleted? It's not a god given right to start out and get advanced member in a week or two. The way I see it, advanced members are people who have dedicated a lot of their time to help out or enrich the community. If the spammers don't like this, they can simply move on to a different site or pay the 5 dollars which is quite nominal. It's a modest fee to enjoy all the options you can play around with.

And I resent the comments about new members who don't have avatars/signatures are spammers who just want to hit the 500 benchmark :(

The first time, I resigned. Cleaning up after you people gets old, fast.

The second time was when the moderating team was removed completely.
