So I trialed Amazon Prime back in like 2008 or 2009 just so I could get a book I ordered sent to me in two days for free because I was impatient... I thought it was cool and all, but couldn't justify spending so much to consistently have rush delivery. (I swear it was 99.99/year then... but the price is now 79.99/year)

I've been ordering waaayyy too much shit off of Amazon recently. Jewelry, Books, Textbooks, Supplements, etc. I've been considering paying the 79.99/year to just get the free rush shipping as I think I've easily spent well over that this last year on shipping alone.

So I was going over it last night, and I found out if you are a student, you can get it for free! (For a year, anyways...) You just have to have a valid .edu email address!

Thought I'd give a headsup to those of you who were somehow unaware of such a wonderful promotion and who shop on Amazon.

With Prime you get free 2-day shipping from Amazon or $3.99 1 day shipping on all items that are actually sold/warehoused BY Amazon.

NOTE: I don't know if this is valid in other countries or even if you guys also use the .edu email addresses we use in America... One of you will have to verify that. :p

Discuss this great promotion, other promotions for students that I likely do not know about, or Amazon in general!

I still have my free student membership ^^ Used to to buy books this year with no shipping. Helped a looot cause I usually wait and go to my classes first to buy my books. Some teachers don't really use the book so that's money saved for me C: Anyway, so free quick shipping helps when I need it by the next class time!

I have had one since July 2010 because of the .edu promotion and it has saved me a great deal of money. I also recently learned that Amazon is starting a Netflix like video streaming service entirely free for Prime members, which will be a huge incentive for me to renew.

I remember back when Scot first mentioned this in July of last year... ah the good old days...

I don't have the money to shop, so I don't have any incentive to sign up..... YET

As awesome as that sounds, I don't think there's an equivalent offer in the UK. And we use .ac.uk email addresses for students.

Amazon Prime is definitely awesome... I've been using it since the edu thing started. Two day shipping is fantastic on anything I order online, since I'm normally used to waiting 2 weeks to get it!

Am I odd in the fact that most of the time my orders usually arrive within 2 working days with Super Saver Delivery anyway?

Whoah. A netflix-like service free for Prime users?!
I already am a Prime member, and it saves me a ton of money every year (I pay the 79.99!)
It's worth it whether you're edu or not, and even without the netflixxy deal

All my amazon deliveries have come ultra-fast. Some sites I sit around for close to a month, amazon rarely more than 2 weeks

My school has a private partnership with Amazon. Free rush shipping as long as I'm a student. Never really used it. O_o

As an Amazon Student member you already receive:
    • FREE Two-Day Shipping with no minimum order size
    • One-Day Shipping for $3.99/item
Upgrade to a paid Amazon Prime membership for $79/year to also get:
    • Unlimited, commercial-free, instant streaming of 5,000 movies and TV shows

Looks like student accounts won't work but I'll definitely make the upgrade when the time comes!

Amazon's just trying to compete with netflix, makes sense to expand your own market. I'd consider it, but I'm already happy with netflix for now.

Amazon prime is awesome, I order shit in the afternoon and get it in two days. I don't know if I really want to pay 80 dollars a year...but in retrospect, you get good shipping services for what amounts to basically...your cellphone or tv/isp monthly bill.

If it actually gets to the point where it has a selection as good at netflix... then hey, why not? Netflix is $72/year at the cheapest plan, so $79 is definitely a competitive rate. In that line of thinking, Prime would just be a bonus (and a really awesome bonus at that).

Actually thanks for reminding me about my student membership. I was about to order a lens from another site but I just realized that with free shipping it'll be the same price on Amazon (and not from such a shady place).
