I'm looking for a leveling, role playing game, either browser based, or Mac friendly for download and support. The game needs the right amount of grind, an endgame that is more expansive than the middlegame, and customization, either of characters, skill sets, or equipment. I like games with a diverse selection in all three of those categories actually.

I guess I'd prefer to play a game that others are playing too, esp. if I know you.

I'm also one of those people that loves immersive culture and ritual as well. Instead of restoring my mana with a potion, I'd rather have to perform a midnight moon dance, savvy?

Anyway, suggestions welcome. I'll probably ask questions about each game posted, so feel free to drop back in.

Everything sounds good except for the text based RPG part... :p I never liked having to type everything about my character for others to read. I'd rather they could just see me :\

If I'm going to play a text based game, may as well play DnD. Although that's more pen and paper than text...

    Still, I'll check it out.

I just heard about this MORPG called NEStalgia.

    http://silkgames.com...algia/index.php

It's an MO in the style of old school 8-bit RPGs. I haven't started playing it yet, but the idea sounds awesome.

This may be one of the few MMO's I actually end up playing.

Everything else feels like a WoW knockoff...

All you really have to do is describe yourself in the game, and then they just LOOK at you and see from then on.

There is like a million times more things you can do when its text based then not. :p

Damn, I might have to actually play that.

MMO's are dangerous territory...they suck you in and don't let you out.

D2. Now there is a good game. If you are into older games, try Dark Age of Camelot. Great MMO, considered to have the best pvp to date. For more modern business, I have heard really good things about that DC Universe game, but pay to play I think. Honestly if you are looking for a good MMO, you will probably have to pay to play. Fortunately if you are good at acquiring currency, you can probably pay ingame for a prepaid card or something. My friend paid 15 dollars for his first month and since then (2 years later) he hasn't had to pay for his months.

Oh man, I've been wanting to try WoW for a while now to see what's so great about it but I'm too poor. :)
Even Starcraft; I think my friends said it's about making castles or some shit and it sounds stupid but they love it apparently.

I'm playing in a pretty good private server. The only thing that we don't have is Cataclysm, High population as blizzlike and 1 or 2 high end instances. But the server is one of the best privates around.

ragnarok online, graphics are lacking, private servers are free, official servers cost a monthly fee, huge selection of character classes, lots of builds for each class, lots of end game optimizing you could do in terms of equipment, great player vs player system, guild sieges, lots of replay value

imo this game is the poor man's WoW
