Buying out shops to encourage restocks?

I've seen a number of "pro" restockers on the Neoboards talking about buying out shops that they were restocking in to encourage them to restock (hopefully with high-profit items). Does this actually work? Is there a limit on the number of items you can buy between restocks or anything that would prevent this?

And if the answer is "yes, this does actually work," would this be a feature that could be implemented into Abrosia? There's nothing worse than watching Abrosia refresh in a shop for an hour straight without a single restock. I think I'd be willing to burn some NP for a chance at promoting more [hopefully expensive] items to restock.

On halfprice days, items that usually wont be profitable would become profitable that day thus reducing lost in buy out.
buying out shops do encourage them to restock with more items. but high profit or not, that depends on luck =D

not recommended for normal days though. there isnt limit in number of items you buy. but there is a 5 second delay between buying items and you could get banned from restocking for a hours

    Yes it works.

How effective is this? depends on the shop. Places like food and books usually get bought out by other people, so no point doing those

Magic is relatively effective; but it can get very pricy if you run into slippery floor potions and what not

I like doing spooky foods for this where I spend about 20k to buyout about 5-6 items and then have it restock like, a snorkle snout or something.

Abrosia can do this if you go into the shop (like on neopets.com) and then see it's full, set profit to 0. When you're happy with the current amount of items, set it back to normal settings.

Repped you for your post Boggart.

And also thanks for the original poster, I wasn't aware of this (glad you raised it), and when I eventually utilise Abrosia it might be worthwhile knowing these things.

Food definitely gets bought out, you're right. I disagree with you on books. I've had multiple 1 hr+ periods in books when I was not RS banned, but there wasn't a single 2500+ NP profit item that Abrosia saw for me. It definitely is faster than other shops, but I wouldn't say that books moves that fast. As for Magic... in the words of Scot: LOL FUCK MAGIC.

And I guess you're right about manually doing it through Abrosia. That makes sense, but requires you to babysit Abrosia. :\ And if/when you do that, Abrosia will use its normal methods of calculating which items to buy, so while there could be some items where there are only 1 of them in stock taking up a slot, but Abrosia might instead try to buy all 9 of another item taking up one slot. It seems like that could be more expensive that it would actually need to be...

When you buy out Spooky Foods, do you target any specific items? Do you buy the entire shop out, or do you just buy all of a few items so that there are free slots for a restock? And then on average how long until the next restock?

Well book gets bought out too; the problem is that there are SO many unprofitable books that sometimes it just restocks literal crap. But i you go into the book shop you usually won't see more than 10 unprofitable books and if you wait enough, people will buy them (sometimes I buy one and just read it to my pet for the heck of it). it is a fast moving shop; just the profit is heavily skewed towards nonprofitable

And yup, it does require you to do that. But technically that's the responsible way to do it anyway :p Although i guess the point of autobuying is because we're lazy

I usually which item is cheapest and have a relatively low quantity ( < 5) because some items have like 15 in stock at 1500 NP each = me not touching. I usually buy out 6-7 because chances are 1-2 will be profitable at least. Spooky is very variable too where you can either have an item worth 800k ETS or it's full of ghostkersandwiches :/

Yeah, I fear that if I tried doing this with Abrosia, there would be times when it would see the 15-in-stock/1500NPeach items and be like OMG THIS IS THE LEAST UNPROFITABLE, MUST BUY ALL when there are other item slots with 1 or 2 items in stock that could be cleared for much less in total.

Thanks for the insight, Boggart. :)

I do this for the gift shop and a few other shops, especially if a new item just came out and I want to nab it. I do it manually though, not through abrosia.

If I ever get tons of free time, I am going to do this, and make it my mission in life to restock a 50K+ item from Tiki Tack. :D
