Quick question for all the ladies: Why do you ask guys stupid fucking questions like "Do you think I'm fat?" You're just setting up a trap and no matter what the guy says, you will still take what you want from it. I've learned that the only safe answer is a short answer devoid of any further detail. "No." "Are you sure?" "100%"

Things that don't work; "Honey, I think you look great!" or "Baby, I love the way you look." I don't know how some manage to take something like that and turn it into something insulting... but it's happened far too many times.

The truth is I think most of us could stand to lose a little weight. (At least in America) But lord knows you'd kill a guy if he told you that he thought you could stand to lose a little weight. Hell, I know that I could stand to lose a little weight. Am I overweight? No. Not at all. However, I know that I could lose 10-20lbs and also still be in a healthy weight range.

I guess my query here is why is it that you ask questions where you know there is no right answer to? Is it a test to see if the guy will pass? Is it to boost your own self confidence? (Although that proves to never really be too effective, IME)

I guess this is mostly a rant but I really would like to know why in the fuck some women do this. If I thought you were fat or unattractive, I wouldn't be with you. Drives me insane!!!

Guys, I don't really want your input, but it is a free country so feel free to say whatever the fuck you want.... but this question is really directed at the ladies. :p

    personally i don't do this
    i think it is annoying
and is clearly an indicator of low self esteem

the easiest way to combat this is honesty
not mean, joking or sarcastic - pure honesty

"you could lose a few pounds to be healthy"
(^) sounds pretty good to me

    but then also offer solution
"how about you and i take up some swimming lesson at the Y, go jogging after work, etc"

i have a very close friend who likes say things like "i am so fat"
my favorite way to combat this is to park as far away from any destination we are going to
and then if it is possible to walk to the next destination (street crossings, etc) i refuse to drive us
saying we can burn some of that fat off

    I'm brutally honest.

A lot of my friends ask me those questions because they know I wont lie to protect their silly feelings.

Here's a little tip, from me, straight you... Us girls...

    -leans in closer-

... We really have no fucking clue what we're doing. We don't. We ask dumb things because we don't think things through (mostly) before we ask them. This leads itself to you taking the blame. Sorry; but it is the way of females.

You have to look for smart people who know how to avoid the trap.

I've never done that. When I ask my mom if I'm fat, I expect the answer to be "Yes". I'm asking for a reason, because I'd have felt I've put on the extra pounds, and I need her to affirm it, and then I deal with it. Sometimes I just feel fat some days, and I ask her, and she tells me "No". She's the only one I ask, because I actually want the truth. I've never asked a guy if he thinks I'm fat :/ But then I've never fished for compliments, and it just seems desperate.. "Say I'm pretty SAY I'M FUCKING PRETTY!!! ROAR!!!"

    That cannot be proved.

    And is also impossible.

Given that over a trillion snowflakes fall every month, and their size, it is impossible for them to all be different.

I don't need to, nor should I, lose any weight. So, I haven't ever been told by a guy that I could stand to lose a little. Gain a little, maybe. But I still ask my significant other what seems like trick questions. He tells me that if I'm not happy with it, change it. I've yet to kill him for saying that doing a few sit-ups wouldn't kill me.

I ask, though, because I want him to reaffirm his attraction to me. It's blatant compliment fishery, but I like being told I'm pretty. Oh, well.

"Is it true that no two snowflakes are identical?

Yes and no. No two snowflakes are exactly identical, down to the precise number of water molecules, spin of electrons, isotope abundance of hydrogen and oxygen, etc. On the other hand, it is possible for two snowflakes to look exactly alike and any given snowflake probably has had a good match at some point in history. Since so many factors affect the structure of a snowflake and since a snowflake's structure is constantly changing in response to environmental conditions, it is improbable that anyone would see two identical snowflakes."

I have never said anything like this seriously.. at least not since I was 13 or so. it's all about self confidence. I would never ask someone "Am I FAYAAAAT?" because I know I'm not fucking fat. I would say it as a joke or if I was making fun of someone who does that. :p If I asked something like that I think everyone in the room would want to stab me with a dull kitchen knife.
That aside, I don't need to lose weight, but I need to work out and tone up again. I've been a lazy bum.

Short answer to your shit: It's aaaalll about self-esteem. Said girl is just looking out for that compliment and self-assurance. Stay the hell away from these crazy bitches.

Note: Sometimes, we girls really do feel like shit and just need a confidence boost. It's how our brain works. Product of a shallow society or whatever.. but if it's a girl you really care about, ask her why she needs to ask that? Ask her whats wrong and why she feels down about herself. Talk to her, it's not that hard. She's obviously looking to you for that assurance for some reason..

Sometimes I do feel down about myself and how I look, and I think about saying something like, "do you really think i'm purty?~" or some shit. but most of time after I think that I just take off my clothes while my bf stares.. then I feel better. :p\

and idk im dead tired and rambly frambly

The answer is simple. They want attention. When a girl asks "Am I fat?" she expects a "NO! You have an amazing body." However, in reality, usually they won't get that answer. The ones that keep asking are idiots.

Yup. Even if they're joking around at first. They're insane with insecurity and will demand your approval....or cry about not having it. : P

I think it depends on the girl. I'm a girl and I have a ton of friends who are very secure about their weight, and never ask questions like that of their friends or boyfriends. But I also know of girls who are super insecure and ask questions like am I fat, am I ugly etc in order to feel better about themselves.

Yeah... I guess this topic was pointless. I already knew that the only reason really is to feel better about yourself... but god damn it does it drive me crazy. :p

I like joking around all of the time so what has worked best for me up to this point is basically saying yes, but completely look like you're joking, even if she is fat. It is pretty funny when near-anorexic girls ask you that. Honestly. What. The. Fuck.

I never ask my boyfriend if he thinks I'm fat, because I'm totally not fat.
But I do like asking him, "Why do you hate me? Why?" To which he responds, "Uh, I don't hate you. I love you." And then I say, "If you loved me, you wouldn't *insert whatever small, easy to forgive, annoying thing he does all the time* because you know it bothers me." This is how I got him to stop texting me MC Hammer's tweets.

I agree with this posting - I don't ask this often, I only ask my closest guy friend for the brutal honesty on the occasional outfit that I think might not be okay.
