The only way that they can know that you are visiting this site, is by breaking the law. I don't think they are going to go that far.... Maybe though.

Is the link referrer the thing where it changes any links to something like

http://www.neocodex....ww.neopets.com/

?

You cannot access another sites cookies. However, a third party cookie such as one set by an advertising company can track you ONLY if both sites are using the same advertising services. Neo would have to request ze data from the third party site which should be next to impossible to do.

Only valid way for them is to track the referrer field.

So yeah...Lasers right :p

I heard that TNT also leaked the e-mail addresses to outside companies for money.

But what I am saying is that I know sites can only take their own cookies for use. What I'm talking about is that they used some sort of cookiegrabber to get the cookie. (Though they mentioned browsing history, not cookies, which I'm more curious about).

Cookie Grabbing works BECAUSE its on the site that owns the cookie. They cannot cookiegrab a neopets cookie from another website. They have to put the code on neopets, and then and only then will your browser let them access the cookie. At that point is when they steal it and send it somewhere else.

There is not legal way that allows you to view someone's browsing history. That is an invasion of privacy, and most browsers work to close holes like these, extremely fast. If they where to use any method to see what you were doing, it would be considered hacking, and would be a felony.

Are they doing this? Maybe. They don't tell anyone how they catch cheaters.

If you where to go from this page, to Neopets, it would keep the referrer. All links from here automatically go through a referrer stripping process so you are safe, but you are not linking, you are instead changing web pages. If you open a new tab though, it does not keep the referrer.

Subeta did it (history I think), but at the same time I guess I was disrupting their game by giving out free answers so it was fair game (though likely illegal as they said), Keith said it was legal since your browser gives the information freely without any hacking involved which hasn't been legally proven yet, but it may have been patched since those sites I provided aren't working.

As I said, it's just theory, I've had all my neo accounts frozen/hacked so I can't really test it out myself. I'd like to see if they are really employing this method or some variation of it, unless it's random freezing. The only reason I doubt the random freezing is because people who aren't on cheating sites (the types who probably don't even know about them) I have hardly ever heard to get frozen, on the other hand people who regularly visit cheating sites get frozen often (even when legit). So I'm just trying to see why it is.

edit:
Another theory I have is that when someone gets frozen, the cookie associated with their account can alert the neo staff when a duplicate has been made. So without even needing a proxy they can tell it's you. I employ this technique on my own forums to prevent trolls so I know it's very possible.

Maybe this is why?
I know a lot of people who just post the snowager link in their status to tell everyone, and some people may just copy the URL into the bar and go there directly

You're fine if you copy the URL and paste it into your address bar, referrers are only sent when you actually click a link.

My theory on neopets icings is a rather basic and simple one. I think that TNT freezes people based upon unrealistic/unhuman times/scores on games and in purchases. I think they track those things and red flag the account when they occur. After x number of red flags, you get iced. If you don't break their upper cap, they take about a couple days out of the month to review all of these scores and determine if they are unrealistic or not and set your account to freeze.

I believe they compile this to-freeze list and then on a specified date, they freeze everyone. This will cause a lot of buzz to be spread around places like this and the neoboards making it seem like TNT is constantly active on their hunt for cheaters! This way, most of their anti-cheater mechanisms are automated. They can seem vigilant and scare off potential cheaters while expending the least amount of man hours (Read: Money) to solve the problem.

Though I am sure my voice of reason will largely go unheard, I had to speak out on this nonsense. With that said, conspiracy theorists,go on and predict away. ;)

That's something that's already pretty known, even tnt mentions it themselves. However what I'm talking about it legit and clean accounts done under another IP, or accounts and users who haven't even cheated before.

I haven't seen any evidence showing clean and legit accounts being iced for cheating. ;)

You would have an easier time if you got out of the rock you are living under....

Hundreds of legit accounts get frozen, all of the time.
