I was SO surprised when I saw that the majority of you answered yes..
Here in Brazil no one EVER takes off their shoes when entering someones house.Posted Image
It would be really odd to see someone do so.
We only take our shoes off when we want to feel comfortable when we are already inside the house of a close friend or family.

If the owner does or asks me to I will, but other than that, nope.

Rofl I'm the opposite. I only leave them on if the house owner specifys me to leave them on or to not worry about it.

I take off my shoes, just because I wear them all day long and my feet hurt too bad to keep 'em on any longer.

I do if I know that I'll be staying for awhile, otherwise they're staying on.

If someone enters my apartment with shoes and brings dirt in I'd kill him/her! It shows respect to you take your shoes off. At least in Bulgaria :/

Only if I know the owner's okay with it, and/or there's a ton of crud on them. Otherwise, they stay on.

It really depends on the amount of time that I plan on spending at said person's house.

    Depends.

My shoes are immediately taken off in my house or any of my friends houses (where they care). If the floor looks dirty in a house or your acquaintance keeps their shoes on, fuck it.

I always ask if I should remove them or not. It's much more polite then just walking around on their nice floors with dirty ass shoes.

I take them off in other people's houses but if I'm coming from outdoors to use the washroom or something in my own house I keep them on, but thats just a rare example, generally off..

I guess since I've always taken my shoes off in my house and most of the peoples' house's i entered, I may be a bit bias. But theres so much shit and garbage that people step in from the outside and you drag all the gunk into the house and if you have carpet it gets disgusting and if you have wooden floors it gets darkened. For those people that said feet are gross.. you don't think the dog feces, spit, vomit, who knows what you've stepped in is worse than socks? Plus if you wear shoes in the house you gotta clean the floors like a gazillion times more.

This is so weird...I thought that was a jap thing.
If someone entered my house and did that I'd be like 0.0 WTF are you doing put your bloody shoes back on, you can take them off when you go back home goddamnit
I see the logic to it. It's just weird to me.

I usually take off my shoes, but my dachshund puppy who does not care if your foot is right over her will force pretty much anyone in my house to take off their shoes immediately :p
