So I'm fairly new to this whole adoption business. It's a pain in the ass putting so much time and effort into something and
then someone else swoops in and steals the glory.

So, have you ever applied for a pet?
Ever put hours of effort into your application?
Did you get it? Did you lose out and want to kill'a'bitch?

Tell me about how you scored that awesome-ass pet :3

Discuss!

Not worth the time. I think the whole adopting thing is stupid... Just my opinion though.

Never tried, never will. It's a waste of time when you go through the trouble and still fail at the end. Best just to wait for dumb owners to pound transfer and AA the pets

The application process is just a talent contest where heaps of people throw in hours of work and brown-nosing and only one of them gets something in return.
The chosen new owner (winner) is always an amazing artist who is also great at writing and/or coding.
What happens to the pet in the end is always the same: it gets tossed into Fleapit Motel and left to rot with its pretty art.

It's stupid but if it's a name you really want or something rare like a uc, then there isn't any other choice.

Yeah, applying, especially for high end pets, is usually a waste of time. The applications that the users receive are ridiculously good. To the point where you just forget about all other contestants. And since "positive" trading is based on a new owner that will love the pet, roleplay with it, play dress-up and put wigs on it, and write stories/make art, they look for users that are willing to do that, since they immediately link these qualities with someone who will love their pixels in the future. It's bullshit and wayyyy too sentimental for me. Posted Image

Years ago I sniped an UC faerie kougra from the adoption lists. I was just refreshing looking for something interesting, and bam! Kougra.

Those applications for adopting neopets are ridiculous. They make the neopets seem as important as real pets....I even once heard someone talking about how they wouldn't adopt this pet out unless the adopter promised to call them by their "nickname"...the pet's name was xx_joey32154 something and we had to call it "Joey" lmao -_-

Hrmmm, i dont really believe in adoption hunting... I'd much rather prefer going out on the pet day and searching for the pet and create it from scratch... So i have no stories to share i'm afraid. Isn't it easier to create a limited edition pet anyway??

A long time ago I used to be in an adoption guild, way before the "transfer" option became available. The only real high-end pets then were Draiks and Krawks but it was very rewarding to lab pets and then adopt them out. I preferred to chat with the person who was interested in adopting - just because somebody isn't amazing at graphics doesn't necessarily mean they won't be a good owner.

At the moment if I have a dream pet of a friend, that I'm not so attached to I just tend to give it to them. I don't know how popular adoption is now since people could always trade an unwanted pet for one they do want.

I never applied for a pet, I wouldn't feel attached at all to a pet that I didn't make. I have put a couple of pets UFA and never asked for application, however I remember an Island Peophin that I gave to a Peo collector, and the girl insisted on making an application for him, even when she was the only person that applied. I actually dislike all this app stuff, most of the times it's only useful for raising people's egos. Before the new version came out, a pet was as valuable as the colour of their paintbrush. Now most of the colours are as rubbish as basics, because you can have a red pet with a very cool customization and still look good. The only way to make your account look less noob in the past, was painting your pets with a expensive pb, but that disappeared when they released wearables.

    Btw:

Woah, I didn't realize how negative applying for something was o:

Well, I'm applying for a draik seeing as I'm too poor to afford one currently,
(hoping to change that with Abrosia) and I must admit, I lab pets and the idea of
adopting them out seems like a daunting task (reading through applications pisses me off, but sometimes I offer to crit them for other's 'cause I'm bored.)

Sooo, as soon as I finally have my dream pet, I will never apply for another god damn pet >:C

    ...
Unless it was an UC plush Ixi or Scorch that's UFA.

That made really made me laugh. XD

I think that adoption is really not cared about anymore. I've always labbed pound pets then given them out for free - I think at one point I asked for applications, but nothing more than a few sentences in a neomail, none of this bullshit with art and plans for painting and god knows what. I've been doing it again since I got back into Neopets, and... I really don't think anyone gives a shit. I was giving out a chocolate pet with a really nice name (misspelt but still very pretty-looking RN) just the other day, and I had literally one person interested - and it got sniped by someone else in the end anyway...

Protip: Find the name of the pet that they are offering up for adoption, and just leave the Pet Transfer Utility running with that pets name selected.

    Suckers.

that only works if they do a poundtransfer, derp.

i have applied for some pets before i started cheating. i got a darigan- and deserthissi and a mutanteyrie that way. i'm not good at graphics but i was creative to find some irresistable reasons why this pet should go to me. worked.

Hehe, I trawl the Pound Board since I got the AA and have been setting my AA to who ever is pounding / pound transferring something I'm interested in.
I missed out on a cybunny, was pretty shitty 'cause they're my second favourite neopet.

Best application I have ever honestly seen. But not because it's necessarily (100%) true, but because I am super detached to my pixels.

This has never worked for me. x.x
I don't think the transfer utility likes me very much, because it's always failing on me. x.x

Where someone doesn't want their pets anymore due to quitting or going on length Hiatus... or simply just doesn't want them,
so they go through this process where people apply for their pet, make the pet a petpage application with background, art, stories, adoptables and the like - in hope that their efforts are rewarded and that the owner chooses them.
Applying for a draik the owner gets like 60-100 applications depending on the name and colour and whether or not it's UC or not, then they have to read through them and ugh, horrible process. D:
