Have you ever had one?
Accidentally?
Purposely?

Please, share with me your stories :D

I'm trying to induce one purposely, but cannot seem to reach sleep paralysis.

Careful with astral projecting, you might come back as someone else.

Insidious is just a movie that likes to over exaggerate x)

Yes, there's evil entities chillin' in the astral plane, but that's not gonna happen -.-

My mum used to tell me stories of her having out of body experiences and watching people die in the hospital where she worked at in Mexico. She's all had dreams of relatives giving their good-byes and ending up getting a call later that they had passed away, and during those I was actually present. On another occasion I remember she had a dream about my (dead) grandmother telling her that there would be a new member in the family, and about two days later we got a call that my aunt was finally able to get her adoption cleared. Interesting stuff. Posted Image

Screw that, I wish I could master lucid dreaming. Posted Image

I've been trying to give lucid dreaming a try.
I got it to work for about 5 seconds the other night, got too excited, running trying to talk to a random guy, then woke up.

I've done it successfully a few times, but not intentionally. It's a blast.
I just really wish I had more control with it. Not to mention that I hardly ever remember when I have a dream. For example during school years I typically only remember my dreams (or acknowledge I had one) during the weekends.

Not... really. I doubt this is what it was, but one day during class in high school I felt a sudden buzzing feeling and a rush like I was moving up and backwards. Almost like being pulled. Everything was a gigantic motion blur so it's not like I could see if I was out of my body or anything. Supposedly, it could have been as simple as a blood clot causing this sensation, though that is not a comforting thought.

As far as sleep paralysis and otherwise, I can achieve this, but not at will. Sometimes it happens even while I'm awake. I'm suddenly completely unattached and it's like my nerves stop firing. Even if I will myself to move, it just doesn't happen. Eventually, it slowly comes back, but it's kind of like the beginning of Kill Bill "Wiggle your big toe..." In a way, it's terrifying because I worry what could happen if I was this way around other people. It lasts no more than 5 minutes, thankfully.

I'm a general skeptic of most things supernatural, but it would be kind of awesome if they did exist.

A blood clot? In your head? o.o

And both my mum and bro report having unplanned paralysis occasionally. I've never had the experience, but they've talked about it in front of me. I'm more of a skeptic meself, but seeing is believing I suppose.

I had a similar experience as yours. I was lying down, trying to purposely have one, and all of a sudden, everything turned white. I had a rush like I was flying, my heart POUNDING because I've never experienced anything like it.

I've read many stories of accidental sleep paralysis when people would wake up, unable to move. They feel an evil presence and it is very hard to breathe.
From what I read, while you sleep, your breathing is really calm and drawn out. Very short breathes. Your mind still believes it is asleep, so it produces hallucinations, which is why people report feeling an evil presence. Also, auditory hallucinations, if you hear anything.

I would love to spend my night life exploring the astral plane instead of having 5 or 6 dreams a night that I can't even remember.

As I said, NOT a comforting thought, but that's what my family doctor at the time had told me. I've never openly talked about the unplanned paralysis with anyone so I can't say I've really met anyone with it. It's a very difficult thing to really explain. I'm just glad that it happened the first time where I was actually just waking up from a deep sleep and not in the middle of the day.

Hmmm... interesting. Well good to know my experience wasn't unique, though I generally refuse to believe it has anything to do with a different dimension. Even if it did, I suppose I would be too much of a pansy to actually experiment with it like you're doing. :p The only similar halluciations that I have had is during fever dreams where I am able to move, able to see the real room around me, but still trapped in a nightmare. I find my body only does that in deep desperation.

Do you know of anything that would explain why my body would do this even while awake? It happens maybe every 6 months or so (give or take a few).

What do you mean "while you're awake" ? When you're just waking up and you can't move?

Trust me, I'm scared of all this stuff, but people who experience it say that they do not really fear death anymore.
I'm just scared of auditory hallucinations that you would hear during sleep paralysis or if there is anyone waiting by my bedside when I leave my body -.-

Sleep Paralysis is scary stuff. The luckier few just hear weird sounds while others hear screaming and such :(

I tried to do lucid dreaming with a tutorial I saw recently but it doesnt work for me :/

That's how you embed. Just copy/paste that link.

By awake... I'll give an example. A few years ago, I was at work filing while sitting in a chair and suddenly could not move. It was exactly like sleep paralysis, but I was not even close to sleep at the time. I was actually very energetic. It's like my brain was completely cut off from my body and slowly it began to be restored after a few minutes.

It must be calming not to fear death so I can understand why you desire it. I figure I'd end up like one of those possessed children in Dragon Age xD In case you haven't played the game, the mages have a link to the other world which is essentially where we go when we dream. The stronger your link, the easier it is to be preyed upon by demons. Either that, or I'd just go crazy.

I thought you were just "stuck" in a certain stage of sleep?

Let me look for an article. I'll edit this later. :3

They say the basic idea is that you arent able to move or do anything and you hear these weird sounds, some see things too, for a while.

I've read that you can train yourself to do it through different methods. Also seen these weird ass gadgets that you put on your head that beeps while you are asleep and wakes up a certain part of your brain. So you are actively thinking while sleeping to easily activate lucid dreaming.

Thanks very strange o.o You might want to see a neurologist if it ever bothers you. I know when you're sleeping, your brain paralyzes your body so you don't end up falling off your bed or sleep walking. I'm not exactly sure WHAT it does to your nerves. People who are narcoleptic tend to have sleep paralysis a lot more frequently.

I'm not looking to not fear death. I'm just curious on what else is out there. Just to experience one of life's phenomenons.
I've read a story that a guy left his body and wandered around outside and did his thing. When he came back, a little black demon thing was standing my his bedside and asked him, "Are you sure you want to go back?"
Stuff like that makes me scared x)

You'll want to be careful with that line of reasoning. The human brain, as well as the subsequent senses it engenders us with, are a far cry from infallible.

Humans are irrational. So I can use it as often as I would like to free of care.

Haha, I was pretty sure it was medical, too. It doesn't happen too often for me to be bothered by it, but thanks for the thoughts. Interestingly, enough, I barely ever move in my sleep. Back when I was 15 or so my parents used to joke that they'd think I was dead because they'd come in my room and then hours later I'd be in the same exact position lol. Maybe I'm just more prone to its effects. After reading a few things I consider myself very fortunate not to have too many negative side effects with it.

And I'm pretty sure if I saw that, I'd never, ever, ever experiment again. Actually, I think I would constantly avoid sleep for the rest of my life.

From a little blog I was reading while researching one day.

    My worst astral projection experience
I got out of my body that night but was having troubles. You'll notice sometimes that you feel like a blob and can't take on your physical human shape. I think if you were to see yourself in the "blob" state you would somehow be an orb rather than human shaped but it's a wierd feeling when it happens. So there I was kind of bouncing (rather than walking) into my son's room to check up on him before I left for the astral plane. As I went into his room there was a 3 foot tall teddy bear floating on its stomach looking down at my boy. To tell you the truth, it was an Alf doll - you remember the Alf series, don't you? Sometimes when you see something in the other planes, if you don't know what it is it will take on the shape of something you're familiar with. I'm not sure if this was the case but I know what I saw.
My first reaction was that my son was having bad dreams and his guardian angel took on the shape of the teddy bear to try and calm him down. I approached slowly and Alf looked over at me. I looked down at my son and said, "I love you, sweet dreams." Since I was wrongly trying to use my mouth instead of my mind, it was just mumbled garbage that came out. Alf then took on a raging facial expression and my mind exploded with the growling words, "what did you say to him?" I looked at my son again and repeated the line which came out as just another bunch of mumbling. Again, louder this time, my mind exploded with the loudest demonic roar I've ever heard, "WHAT DID YOU SAY TO HIM?" I instantly got sucked back to my body and woke up shaking.

Since I watched Insidious, I've been reading up on this astral projection stuff. It's pretty crazy. And that story right there, regardless if its garbage or not, makes me a little bit uneasy.
