I'm surprised no one made a topic about this yet. :/

http://www.bbc.co.uk...europe-14262956

Norwegians are mourning the victims of a massacre at an island youth camp and a bombing in the capital Oslo.

At least 85 people died when a gunman opened fire at the Utoeya camp on Friday, hours after a blast in the government quarter killed seven. Another four are missing on the island.

A 32-year-old Norwegian man was charged over both attacks, but police say it is possible another person was involved.

That's just nuts. They're still finding dead bodies on the island that were previously accounted for.

It seems that people find Amy Winehouse's death more interesting than this :/

May they all rest in peace :(

Senseless tragedies like this always make me despise humanity more than I did to begin with.
There is no escape from the crazies in this world.

What kind of youth/summer camp is that? All is states about it is "Hundreds of young people had been attending the summer camp organised by the governing Labour Party."
    I'm curious.
Also RIP for those killed :(

I never understood random violence like this against innocent people. They're targeting all the wrong victims here.

I really can't understand what could possibly be in that guy's mind.
That's when I think death penalty should be applied. The thought of that guy ever being reinserted to society makes me sick.
For me it'd be either death or staying in jail for good.

There is no death penalty in Norway. The strictest penalty is 21 years in jail...

They can give longer in exceptional cases I think.

This is really unheard of. Most Scandinavian countries are almost completely without violent crimes like this. 80 people were killed. Worst of all, one of the assailants was dressed in a policemans uniform. I can't imagine how hard it's going to be for the public to see the policemen/women.

I heard the toll is at least 90 people now. Norway's population is a little less than 5 mil, so this is pretty devastating. Here's hoping they can deal with this travesty and move on.

Holy! I was reading this as it was just unfolding yesterday and only read about the government building death counts, which were 7, I didn't look back into it, they didn't have the camp's death counts posted at the time... what the heck that is so many people dead =/... 85 people wow, that's probably one of the biggest mass murders in the history of the world in such a short period of time by a gunman I would imagine... geeze...

I investigated a bit. You're absolutely right. My mistake. He is accused of terrorism and serious acts of terrorism are punishable by imprisonment up to 30 years.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear enough. What I mean to say is that if death penalty was allowed, I'd say electrocute the hell out of that guy.

EDIT: I said electrocute because I'm not sure how I would fit lethal injection there :(

And now I guess it might go up to 98 if some people don't pull through. I never expected anything like this from Norway, but it goes to show you that hatred like this exists everywhere.

Thanks for posting the link, I lost hold of the news of this yesterday when my TV died last night--I'm that old school, still waiting for the news on TV or smth. It quite saddens me too that people more aware of the Amy Winehouse death than this :\

I'm quite curious what the intentions are though, since a terrorist attack on a Scandinavian country just sounds too ridiculous.

Its horrible. Estimates running at about 100 dead now with the missing.

It upset me to hear on the news tonight that it took police over an hour to get to the island to arrest the gunman even though from what I found online it seems the island is only 500 meters from the shore?

    RIP.

A pretty terrible thing to happen, for sure. I'm really impressed with the country response so far.

Absolutely awful and intensely depressing. I wish the best for all the families involved, and hope that some of these kids involved can move past the trauma and build an amazing life for themselves.

It's crazy though, isn't it? I thought I'd misheard when it was said this was in Norway. Not a place you'd expect a terrorist attack, not at all. There are wingnut crazies in every nation, I suppose. Gives new meaning to the right wing shock jocks, bloggers and journos who call for serious/violent action on this, that or the other, though... when it actually happens, it's devastating.

Even though sarcastic that was a good observation made by that girl. Just because one person is bad doesn't mean all others are bad.

No, not everyone. But a single twisted mind is capable of plotting massacres like this. The more that the humankind "progresses", the more dangerous it becomes.
