That's crazy! It's really weird how AT&T has basically just gone up the cellular food chain so quickly. My mum and I are leaving AT&T in October when are contracts aren't valid anymore, probably going for Sprint or Cricket.

Yup. If they become too monopolistic, people will file a class action lawsuit, and this will get involved.

They have to clear a test in the first place. If the power that be decide that this would give them too much monopolistic power, they will force them to split :p

Then I'll just switch to Sprint, lol. I was very happy with them when I had a two-year agreement for unlimited, but after the two year plan I didn't need unlimited anymore, so I switched to T-mobile prepaid. If T-mobile really does decide to raise prices that much I'll just switch or not have my cellphone at all. I'm not one of those cellphone-tied-to-the-hip folks. That shit decreases your bone density. :p

How much is your prepaid? AT&T is $50 bucks unlimited talk/text/web. Not gonna get too much cheaper I think.

    Less than $30. (like 29 something) So I pay $20 less but that's 20 I'm saving of minutes/texts I don't use :p

Businesses like these will inevitably end up as a monopoly someday. Then the Sherman/Clayton acts'll bust that open, until its split into smaller companies which'll fight each other until once again, the cycle repeats.

I thought your joke was funny M1ster. :p

As many of you know, I work in the industry at the moment. (Verizon) Firstly, this advertisement is false. T-Mobile (17.8% of market share) and AT&T (25.9% of market share) combining still only makes 43.7% of the market share... Not 80%. (Verizon has 21.5% of the market share with Sprint holding 17.3% The remainder is in smaller companies.)

Yes, this is a huge move for the industry... AT&T will have a clear advantage in the marketplace against Verizon with this merger... But that's okay. It's legal and they aren't really monopolizing as the ad claims. (An example of a similar situation is when Verizon bought out AllTel.)

As to the AT&T reception issue? My area is fine... I never drop calls in my area. (Still under AT&T contract) Your coverage is highly dependent upon your area. As to the issue with your iPhone 4, you may want to ensure you aren't accidentally ending calls with your face. I know before the software update, the ambient lighting proximity sensor was making errors causing the phone to light up while it was next to your face and your face would press buttons.)

Can't think of much more to add other than that... :p

(In short: This ad is blatantly false. (Also see: Inaccurate, wrong, incorrect, bullshit, and "Totally bogus duuuuuude!")

This makes me LOL every single time I hear it.

AT&T is a joke, especially after they practically went under in the 90's after making a series of "one time purchases" that virtually wiped out their earnings. The only thing that kept them afloat was their incredibly fat balance sheet. As a matter of fact, AT&T is not the original company it started out as, The original company was on the very of going under so it was split up and sold the cellular network to Cingular (which later changed it's name to AT&T) and the cable network to SBC (which also ironically later renamed itself at AT&T).

They had a good vision, but because of poor management and one crappy decision after another they technically no longer exist.

OK done with the rant/ history lesson....

I'm an ATT customer myself, and the only reason I was with them is because I love the Iphone, but now that Verizon has it, I might just switch.. we'll see..

Ok I lied, not done yet. The merger is actually not a bad thing, and monopolies are not illegal. There are actually many more monopolies in this country then all of you think (ex: power companies, USPS, etc) they are also knows as regulated monopolies.

Also I doubt the prices will go up/ anything will dramatically change. They still have to compete with Verizon/ Cricket/ A bunch of other smaller companies.

If anything hopefully they will expand their coverage and i'll actually get service where I live.

My service started going downhill about a year ago, and not, i can't get through an entire conversation without ATT dropping a call at least twice.

Still, more competition is better. I'd rather ATT and T-Mobile did not merge.

This reminds me of the Orange/T-Mobile merger in the UK. IIRC that was done pretty shoddy too, my friend managed to break his contract as they were not providing him with adequate coverage since the merger.

I grab a coffee at timmies right beside our local Rogers and I throw it at their window :p Sketchy as hell though sometimes because the police station is right beside it.
