as far as me having nothing to give...doesnt it say in the terms and conditions that this is an educational website? wouldnt my being here to learn qualify as a contribution? whos to say through my being here i dont help to expand the content you have here in the future, or even now as we speak by making points about the proposed changes? and you say our? did you write the codes for these programs? none of the programs im using/saw had your name on them. please correct me if im wrong. thats part of the point im making, the point of how people take the internet too seriously at times and get bent on policing sites they frequent. the user that made this public was acting in a way that he/she thought helpful...and it was. it raised my awareness of the proposed change. i see no fault with this, simply i see potential fault with how some users may play a part in this being a negative change...or how it could be an indicator that users would be forced to pay for the use of this site. thats very helpful information in my opinion.

*retch*ty iargue, i appreciate the encouragement
Oh dear. Poor you.all in all i think my point is mostly that i dont see any of this being a good fit for me as a person, and from what ive already seen on the forums i would only be stuck NOT wanting to post.
I fail to see how this situation is any worse for you than the 500 post requirement.
If you post like you have been so far, no one can possibly accuse you of spamming.either because im not able to add anything other than my opinion which could easily be faulted as spamming, or lack of interest in dealing with rude/judgmental people...
And if you don't want to deal with rude/judgemental people, then don't address your posts to them. Although I suspect that your aversion to rudeness and judgement comes from the fact that your opinions aren't very well considered, and don't really stand up under scrutiny.
That's just pathetic. I'm friends with plenty of people I don't see eye to eye with on every issue.or even people that just cant see eye to eye with me.
If I wanted to surround myself with yes-men and a whole load of intellectual masturbation, I'd join a cult.
What little you've read, and apparently understand, is right.it seems rather pointless to say something like "i dont see the point of you being on here if..." by that logic why are any of us here? couldnt something in your life make me think sitting around playing neopets is an odd choice? i dont mean to find fault boggart, rather just make a point that my motivation to be here is mine alone. only my character should be what makes me stand out as having earned a place here right? but by that logic wouldnt a person find fault in sweeney or anyone else because they attack someones character for no reason? my post was simply about how i see the proposed change being difficult to deal with from a personal stand point. knowing it could be in someone elses hands to decide denying me access for some arbitrary reason? from what i can, tell sweeney is someone who has been around a while. i would have to deal with him having say over weather i can stay or not. that doesnt sit well with me. from what little ive read about all of this ive seen nothing but him attacking people. myself now included. this is the picture i now have of this site. that waqs the point i was making.
People find fault in me all the time. They're welcome to PM me about it, and often do.
If you don't want your opinions to be assessed, don't post them. Perhaps a forum isn't the right environment for you at all.
Possibly, and no.as far as me having nothing to give...doesnt it say in the terms and conditions that this is an educational website? wouldnt my being here to learn qualify as a contribution?
If you're just a member who does nothing, not even post, then you deserve nothing. If you post shit all the time, then likewise, you deserve nothing.
If you post consistently, and constructively, then you deserve advanced.
I thought your whole point was that you didn't feel like you wanted to contribute?whos to say through my being here i dont help to expand the content you have here in the future, or even now as we speak by making points about the proposed changes?
It doesn't matter what programs I've contributed, I am a part of this community.and you say our? did you write the codes for these programs? none of the programs im using/saw had your name on them. please correct me if im wrong.
For the record, though, a simple search will easily show you what I add to this site.
Well, I'd disagree with "too seriously".thats part of the point im making, the point of how people take the internet too seriously at times and get bent on policing sites they frequent.
If no one policed anything, the site would go to shit.
Helpful to you does not necessarily indicate that it was helpful to everyone. Nor that it was the best way to go about being helpful.the user that made this public was acting in a way that he/she thought helpful...and it was. it raised my awareness of the proposed change. i see no fault with this, simply i see potential fault with how some users may play a part in this being a negative change...or how it could be an indicator that users would be forced to pay for the use of this site. thats very helpful information in my opinion.
Nor, even, that it was more helpful than doing nothing.

The idea, in essence, seems great. Members get to vote on whether or not someone is allowed Advanced member privileges. That's democratic, right? Beautiful.
What I'm afraid of, though, is either a broken or a slow system that doesn't help anyone.
Let's face it. The only reason anyone signs up for this forum is to gain access to the programs you guys provide. The 500 post system was one that worked, and one that didn't need to be moderated unless it was necessary. Maybe it was abused by spammers, but the job of the moderators is to deal with spammers, isn't it?
With this new system (that, granted, we know very little about at this point), it may be easier for people to obtain Advanced membership, or it could be harder. Maybe the process will be so slow that once someone is nominated (or nominates themselves?), it takes ages for it to be approved and that person is just stuck waiting, unable to do anything. Another issue could arise that it becomes incredibly challenging to be approved for Advanced or even nominated, making it such an elite club that new members of the community will have a hard time getting into it.
I think the site's moderators and administrators are giving the community too much credit here. We may all be good people, but give anyone power and they'll take advantage, fast.
We can't be drawing conclusions yet, but I feel like we (the community) should at least voice all of our concerns and confusions before this goes into effect. It's a lot easier to change something before it's set in stone.
Call me crazy.. I'm just worried. I've been a member of Neocodex for over a year now, and I've barely posted because frankly, there isn't much to post about. I'm not the type of person to type out a 'Thanks!' randomly in a thread just to get my post count up, nor am I the type of person to whore around in social threads for the sake of it. I'm glad that the 500 post system is gone because it didn't personally work for me, but I hope that this new system won't introduce new cons to obtaining Advanced membership.

no...that was your take
Oh dear. Poor you.
I fail to see how this situation is any worse for you than the 500 post requirement.
because my membership status may be up to people like you, when at least with the old model it was democratic in the sense that the only human involvement was in spotting spammers and scammers....not in the decision process itself. that i would be fine with because despite that it might take me forever i can have faith in that there is no favoritism or haterism *pokes sweeney*
Possibly, and no.

possibly? yes...the terms and conditions was actually rather short...only three paragraphs and this was the first thing that was mentioned. go check it out
no? i disagree strongly. by being an educational site, the point of being here is either to teach, learn, or hopefully both. so by coming here to learn i am contributing because im not here just to spam and leave after i get my 500 posts and can change my setting on abrosia, rather im here to be use the service this site claims to provide. if you had read that first paragraph of the T&C you would understand that the point of it was to legally protect this site from viacom, otherwise this is just a pay site for cheating on neopets. and that would actually make the owners of the site legally liable as having violated the rights of viacoms property. so, its either here for me to learn from or they are breaking the law. which is it?
It doesn't matter what programs I've contributed, I am a part of this community.
and your special how? i created an account, and am therefor now part of the community also. which leads me to...
Helpful to you does not necessarily indicate that it was helpful to everyone. Nor that it was the best way to go about being helpful.
Nor, even, that it was more helpful than doing nothing.
i could say the same to you...but in the meantime...
If you post like you have been so far, no one can possibly accuse you of spamming.
thank you

retchlol at calling me a wretch
/rɛtʃ/
–verb (used without object)
1.
to make efforts to vomit.
Anyway. Nothing in life is free. If you don't have the time to contribute to the site or the money to buy advanced membership, then it's best to move on. You can still use the NP generator or SS. Regular Abrosia isn't even that bad, actually.

- people need to complain less. You're being provided a program for FREE, as long as you demonstrate an effort to contribute the community. If you're 'antisocial', suck it up. Nobody wants your sob story.
- it is in fact true that all arguments on the internet spiral into petty flame wars. I've been there, its miserable. (especially if you're arguing with Sweeney, chances are you're wrong and/or his skill in argumentation far surpasses yours)

cant afford dog food? not hardly. but feeding myself and my family is only the start of what i see a need to put my little income towards. having little money means what little i do have is shared freely as others have shared freely with me. if anything the dog has it easy, no one denies the dog food. but they sure as hell dont give a damn about me despite that if something happens to me then something might happen to the dog.
struggling to find wifi? where do you live? wifi is pretty prevalent. ive been in ditches in the middle of nowhere and had wifi from a pole barn. and what i do to entertain myself is no less validated than you.
making it not easy to gain access? not the point i was making. the point i was making is i actually prefer a system where the only human involvement is if i spam or scam. then any user can come along and point out the fact that someone is making useless posts but does not have a say in weather someone gains access or not. they only moderate as a community.
and the man? no if anything the man has nothing to do with the greater problem. the man in this case would be the fact i cant fairly play the game because there are players using abrosia. so to me viacom is the man. the users taking advantage of abrosia are simply following suit with what we all see the man doing anyway, favoring apathy and greed. this can be seen again by the fact that everyone loves flamming people on the internet.
and yes, paragraph after paragraph. far be it from you to understand that when i have something to say its not monosyllabic. it also doesnt help having short posts when theres nothing but people trying to find fault with others for voicing themselves. i choose not to remain silent when faced with others spiteful ignorant obsessions with flamming users because they are dealing with a policy change that doesnt affect you except in the way that it removes senseless posts. it effects me greatly as a new user, so im voicing my concern about this proposed change and how it affects me despite that no real concrete change has been formulated. this fact alone only raises more concerns
now if yall want to keep bashing others and spamming about me then feel free, otherwise i could easily be spending my time working on making guides and adding something to the site in the little time im here before yall have me removed. thus validating exactly what my concern is.

I am also antisocial, homeless, and have a wife and dog. What are the odds?! Life is hard for people like us. Not only is it nearly impossible for me to talk to people without going on for paragraphs and paragraphs, but I also cannot afford dog food. I fear my dear companion, Rex, shall go hungry. Here I am, struggling day in and day out, wandering the streets to find wi-fi connections so that I can dress my Hissi in amazing outfits, and the man is just trying to keep me down by making it not-easy to obtain the ultra awesome Advanced member settings on a program designed to become wealthy in the virtual world of Neopia! I curse you, staff of Neocodex! A pox on your house!
That's not a very nice thing
And after I gave you that wig to help you dress up your hissi better.

Your comprehensions skills are risible.lol at calling me a wretch
i can understand why you would say that, especially since i have yet to see you ever say anything positive about anything. and i did actually look to see if youve contributed anything, didnt really see anything of note.
And yes, I used that word so you would have to Google it.
Not a relevant point. At all.and youre being helpful here how?
Then for starters, learn how to make your points in a clear and concise manner, and then correct the misunderstandings that your verbose writing style has fostered.no...that was your take
Have you actually read the topics relevant to this point?because my membership status may be up to people like you, when at least with the old model it was democratic in the sense that the only human involvement was in spotting spammers and scammers....not in the decision process itself. that i would be fine with because despite that it might take me forever i can have faith in that there is no favoritism or haterism *pokes sweeney*
The voting system will be based on whether or not you have spammed, there will be barely a hint of personal bias to the process at all.
If it helps, though, I doubt I'll spend any of my time in that particular forum.
You think I hate you? Bless. Hate is a feeling that can only come from a strong emotional bond, whereas my attitude towards you could barely be more apathetic.
I haven't read the TnCs in around five years.possibly? yes...the terms and conditions was actually rather short...only three paragraphs and this was the first thing that was mentioned. go check it out
I'm not going to read them now, because their content is tangential to any other point you've made, and inconsequential to your argument as a whole.
To begin with, breaking the terms and conditions of Viacom's site is not the same as breaking the law. The operations of this site are not illegal.no? i disagree strongly. by being an educational site, the point of being here is either to teach, learn, or hopefully both. so by coming here to learn i am contributing because im not here just to spam and leave after i get my 500 posts and can change my setting on abrosia, rather im here to be use the service this site claims to provide. if you had read that first paragraph of the T&C you would understand that the point of it was to legally protect this site from viacom, otherwise this is just a pay site for cheating on neopets. and that would actually make the owners of the site legally liable as having violated the rights of viacoms property. so, its either here for me to learn from or they are breaking the law. which is it?
However, let's say for the sake of argument that this is a legitimate eLearning website. Simply by joining up and using the resources, you are not contributing to the site. We have no ads that pay per impression, which is the only way I can concieve that your pageviews would mean anything other than inflating our traffic statistics by a miniscule amount. Your opinions are simply not right on this issue.
No. You're a member of the forum, not the community.and your special how? i created an account, and am therefor now part of the community also. which leads me to...
There is a difference.
You could say the same to me, but that would indicate that you didn't understand my argument, and that your only recourse was parroting my replies back at me.i could say the same to you...but in the meantime...
As sad indictement of your ability to hold an intelligent conversation.
It wasn't a compliment, just a statement of fact.thank you
It doesn't change the fact that the content of your posts is poorly considered, and mostly, fundamentally wrong.
As a postscript, I'd also like to add that I'm sure I read somewhere that you said you'd done a search and couldn't find anything I'd ever contributed to the site, but oddly enough, I now can't seem to find where that sentiment was expressed. Perhaps I imagined it.
But if not, then you really, really, need to learn how to use the search function more successfully.

That being said, I love you Sween, in the most non-creepy way possible.
And just to put something out there - if being advanced is that important to someone, then they'll do whatever it takes to get there.
Granted, the money they might pay could be used for something much more useful, but if getting those benefits is important to them, then they'll do it.
Yeah, the time they might put in to get themselves a positive rep on the forums could be spent doing something more productive, but if advanced membership is that desirable to them, they'll put in the time.
My point is, if you want something, go get it, don't waste your time complaining about how hard it is to obtain.
