So! Former governor of Minnesota Tim Pawlenty has officially withdrawn from the race for the Republican Presidential nomination, leaving the field almost exactly as he found it: populated by Tea Partyers and Mitt Romney.

I guess what I'd like to see as far as the primary goes is a nice, centrist candidate to face off against Obama's centrist campaign. The further from the center the GOP's candidate is, the harder his (or her) campaign will go.

What are your thoughts? Foreigners are welcome to express their opinions as well, regardless of your ability to vote :p

Discuss and opine.

So my ears definitely bled a bit while I was watching Bachmann's speech during the Iowa primaries. She talked a big game about how she was going to finally get rid of obamacare but I heard absolutely nothing about what she was going to do as an alternative... Her running for president would definitely do wonders for the democratic party.

All I will say is in 2008 I was a Romney fan, and in 2012 I will most likely vote for Ron Paul.

I want to see Palin run, then it would make the election hilarious. Repubs chance of winning is slim anyways, as it should be.

Palin and Bachmann? Dream team for sure!

I guess that came off as kinda crude. I usually vote democratic but have no problems with the republicans. What I do have a problem with is that they shoot down every idea without giving any alternatives. Then again, I would have the same problems if the democrats did the same thing.

Another election where the least of two evils will win. Either way we're going to continue to be fucked.

The buzzers made the dogs go crazy and for the 5 minutes I watched Bachmann's speech made me filled with so much rage I just had to change the channel. I was too weak.

As an actual candidate for president? Mitt Romney seems to be the least FUCKING INSANE of the bunch, which is kind of funny considering his LDS affiliation.

Who I'd like to see flounder in the the elections? Bachmann...but if she actually got elected...(...............) :|
EDIT: Just watched this video, was hit with wave of terror.

You should have added an "undecided" option to your second question...

I voted Ron Paul... I think it'd be nice for the country to have a legitimate libertarian vs. a liberal for president. Conservatism is hypocritical on its face...

Though, I think I'd much rather see Perry win the nomination so we can get the fucker out of his gubernatorial position in my home state. :p

My ultimate prediction right now is split.

GOP is going to break down as follows. Romney gets a buy to the finalist table for his "moderate" stance. Bachmann and Perry will out-conservative each other for the other finalist spot. (Winner clearly being Perry as he has the "business, economic leadership, and "true conservative values"" that all the GOP are going nuts over right now.)

Ron Paul will sweep the libertarian party and capture ~10-18% of the nomination vote, probably not winning a single state.

Ultimately, I think the Romney vs. Perry debate will come down to campaign tactics. I think that Perry will out-right wing Romney, but if that is the case, I think Obama will definitely be re-elected. If Romney outwits Perry, then I think it will be a closer finish for the presidency.

As to who I will vote for? I'm still undecided. There is an entire year left to see how badly Obama crashes and burns/recovers the U.S. before I make my decision. (Elections held today... I'd still probably vote Obama.)

If I DID vote Republican, it would be Ron Paul. He has some very interesting ideas and good points about our economy thus far.. It would be verrrry interesting. I'd vote Ron Paul over Obama TBH but Paul has little chance of getting the nomination. So lesser of two evils here we go..

I'd say Ron Paul but he'd get smooshed. Romney is getting mystery money which is worrisome but besides that I think he's the best candidate

Honestly almost all the republican candidates are shit and the same holds true for democrats.

I voted for Obama in the last election, and would only vote GOP if Ron Paul gets the nomination. It's odd to me that so many people I see (not just here) have an "I would vote Paul, but he doesn't stand a chance," outlook. I think he's the only candidate of the GOP runners that stands a chance (and a legitimate one) against the current administration because of so many people like myself who hold more of a libertarian view and are forced to pick the lesser of two evils every election. If the GOP knew what was good for them they would be pushing Paul HARD, because if he gets their nomination, he secures all of the GOP vote plus numerous former Obama supporters like myself.

EDIT: But he doesn't play the game enough to get major support. That's great for the people of this country, but they will never see the benefits. A Lack of corruption on his part prevents him from getting the necessary attention.

I feel Ron Paul is the only one that stands a chance against Obama, I just don't feel like he stands a chance getting the Republican nomination, which would indeed be a problem

I'd peg him for the Republican nomination. He's similar in character to Bush.

I elected other. Gary Johnson for the win! Ron Paul has sensible foreign policy, but I dislike most of his other p.o.v's.

Of course most people here'll vote for either democrats or other. Ron Paul is probably the Republican right now with the most potential to change things. On the flip side, that's also the reason he'll never be elected.

Right now I feel like I'd be better off not voting, since I stayed out of the Kerry/Bush one for the same reason as I may stay out of this one--I don't want to be forced to vote for the one I hate the least, as opposed to the one I think will actually do a decent job.

It doesn't help republicans at all that they keep getting total batshit wackos as their front-runners for the last few years. Christ, do they only pick women if they're complete lunatics?
