I know everyone hates them, but...

cmon. To an extent, they're right. With the catholic church's... record, there is a problem with North American Society. WBC is extremist, but reforms are necessary. I'm not religious, so let me know what you guys think

The hell are you talking about now? Isn't that the church that went to a gay soldier's funeral and caused a stir? I have no idea their ideas of reform.. the only thing I see them spew is hate. Against gays and soldiers, I mean CMON like you said. They're nuts and should be IGNORED because all they're after is attention.

yeah but war in itself is a bad thing. and the dislike against homosexuals is not unlike other homophobes. Granted, that's not a valid case, but why are homophobes given better social status than members of WBC?

Because they aren't in a CHURCH group that organizes and rants about nonsense like "God Hates Fags." It's very hypocritical of them to be a church and do/say hateful things.

They have full right to free speech, there's no doubt about that, but that doesn't mean I can't hate their guts.
    This topic is stupid.

Their extremism is not intended to provoke meaningful change in society. They just want to make sure the entire world knows they're going to hell.

    This topic is stupid.

Fred Phelps, I think, is just a huge troll. That's it. Nothing more.

cmon. To an extent, they're right. With the catholic church's... record, there is a problem with North American Society. WBC is extremist, but reforms are necessary. I'm not religious, so let me know what you guys think

... Reforms on what exactly? The overly sexual society? What? There's not much a church could change in NA. Our society is pretty much headed for hell (not in the religious sense), and I doubt any of the ones sending it that way are going to be swayed by god.

    Thats like saying to an extent the KKK are in the right.... What does the Catholic Church have do with the current North American society? Seeing as the church preaches AGAINST;
    Adultery
    Sex before marriage
    Gluttony
    Violence

Well at least they seem better at practicing what they preach versus the average Catholic. (If you watch the documentary BBC had. It's on youtube, iirc. That's where I watched it.) .

Oh and also, if you want to make an argument about why an organization founded upon irrational hatred "might have a point" you're going to need more than a couple sentences.

I forgot to what extent I'm allowed to swear on this forum so I'm going to censor my speech a bit.

I have no idea what RAINBOW UNICORN DEFECATION your talking about, but I INTERCOURSE fail to see what point your attempting to make. If you are trying to make a case about priests and their bad habit of having unicorniphiliac relations with kids, then I guess I agree... But honestly I think you could have chosen a better way

I'm kind of curious what point you were trying to make.

The Westboro Baptist Church is a terrible organization, and the whole Phelps family is full of assholes, but I'm still not sure what you're trying to say. I fail to see how they're right in any regard. Parading around FUNERALS spewing hate is not the correct way to send a message or try and prove a point. There are reforms necessary, and that would be disallowing the Westboro Baptist Church from partaking in all the activities they come up with. I understand that there will always be extremists, but their antics are not tolerable and are only there to provoke others.

Second- How is there a problem with North American Society? Elaborate on that point.

Third- Yeah, the Catholic Church does not have a spotless record, its actually far from it, but you're trying to say that the Westboro Baptist Church has it right? I honestly can't tell if you're trolling, or are just a young anti-homosexual kid.

yeah but war in itself is a bad thing. and the dislike against homosexuals is not unlike other homophobes. Granted, that's not a valid case, but why are homophobes given better social status than members of WBC?

I strongly agree that war is a bad thing. However, in a situation like this, a death of a soldier who could be involved in that war for any number of reasons should not be cause for a protest or celebration. If they wanted to make their point in a reasonable manner there are plenty of other options. Instead, they step on everyone's toes to make their point (Or, depending on what you think they're after, find potential people to sue...)

Also, please reword "the dislike against homosexuals is not unlike other homophobes" so it makes sense. It currently means "The dislike against homoseuxals is like other homophobes"- Do you understand what homophobia is? Most homophobes are given better social statuses than members of the WBC because, despite their feelings, they do not publicly display their feelings. The worst part, however, is that the WBC does it around terrible circumstances, like deaths of soldiers.

all i mean is that WBC is a combination between a push for reform of society and extremist homophobes. Look at the housing crash. People are being exploited by banks and corporations so they can make more profit. You have to admit that the oppression of the poor and the middle class to make the wealthy wealthier is problematic. In fact, the American government has turned into more of a plutocracy than anything else: everything is determined by wall street. How is that ethical?

Can you do anything to back up your claim that they are pushing for "reform of society" on a socioeconomic scale? Their agenda, last time I checked, was entirely religious. I don't see them parading around with "ECONOMIC EQUALITY" and "GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY" pickets.

Once again, I'm failing to see the connection between the housing crash (Due to a price bubble and the sub-prime clusterfuck), banks and corporations conducting business (You do understand banks and corporations are entities created for the purpose of earning money, right? That is why they strive to make a profit), and the WBC/Catholicism/any other religious affiliation you want to bring into this discussion. I agree that the middle and lower classes get the short end of the stick, and something should be done, but whatever your point is about the WBC taking an extreme viewpoint and pushing for a social reform is not going to happen; nor should it.

Eyams, I really have no clue what you've been after in this whole topic. Your argument is scattered and poorly constructed. This has gone from the WBC, to social reforms, to homophobia, back to WBC, to social reforms driven by the WBC, and finally to socioeconomics. As much as I want to have a discussion, it is getting hard to follow your thoughts.

did not read rest of thread yet, but replying anyways. They funerals they go to are not of gay soldiers specifically. They are protesting homosexuality at soldier's funerals, straight or not.
