What makes a post go into general chat vs chit chat or anything else similar? (debate, entertainment)

I made a topic about the evolving definition of "cool" (or lack thereof) and how its etymology hasn't developed much, whereas similar works like daddio have fallen out of favor. Why is that topic now in chit-chat and considered less germane than say arguing about Justin Bieber? These two topics were in debate.

Talking about the evolving definition of 'cool' isn't really a debate because there aren't at least two distinct positions which people can give opinions from on the subject so it's really just a discussion about how a word has changed over time. With the Justin Bieber one, for example, there are at least two positions which people could take. They could argue that not everybody hates Justin Bieber with reasoning why, or they could take the position that he's a retarded man-child with absolutely no discernible talent to speak of, etc.

Entertainment tends to be things about movies, TV shows, games, or other general entertainment found from anywhere.

Also, if a discussion becomes too unrelated to the original topic, they sometimes get moved to chit-chat.

Nah, I always think rick rolling is fail.. what I do, is put the actual video up and let the imagination do the rest..
Everytime i even see the name I get the song stuck in my head for hours.
Also. NEVER rick roll a real rick astley fan... it doesn't work
