The thing is that if they want ethical treatment of animals then respect the fact that not everyone respects animals just like everyone does not respect George Bush so live your life loving animals and I will enjoy cosmetics, hunting and anything

Sounds like you just want to wear lipstick and shoot things.

Animal rights activists are not angry that animals are used for consumption; it is quite necessary. Again, it isn't that you eat cows or wear mink--even though animal produce consumption is horribly wasteful of energy--it is the quality of life they receive. It's shit.

If you found Schindler's List to be a moral romance and also support the corporations that do this, by word or by deed, you are a hypocrite.

He did in super mario bros 3. Tanooki Suit.

Mhmm. That's what I thought. I'm not quite sure now why they're only doing this now, when he's had one for years, was my point.

This. Personally, I'm a HUGE meat eater, and milk drinker. But - I don't like eating stuff from animals that are from mistreated animals. A: We don't know the full affect of eating stuff from over processed foods, and animals treated with hormones. B: Happy/Healthy animals just tend to produce more quality products.

Do I have a problem with people wearing fur things? Actually, no. I don't. Again, it's how much it's produced, if it's killing off the species. But then again, poachers can take advantage of this for money, but still. It reminds me of the Indians and their buffalo - They used every single part of the animal, including it for their houses and clothes. They did it in moderation/nice pace, so it doesn't even bother me.

PETA is officially an idiot. I don't get why this is only being brought up now. It makes absolutely no sense tome. They don't quite seem to understand that we, as humans, are designed to be omnivores, and will consume meat. They should probably be going for ethical treatment of animals both killed and not - not just flat out saying anything from an animal is "wrong and immoral and should be punished accordingly." >.>

When I saw the title, I figured it was because he stomps on animals, not because he wears a Tanooki Suit... I mean, seriously? The Tanooki is a mythical creature. If PETA has decided to protect mythical animals, shouldn't they be protesting anything depicting unicorns? I have no problem with PETA, some of the things they do are alright, but it's stuff like this that makes me think they're completely idiotic at times.

    Wikipedia says otherwise

The Japanese raccoon dog, also known as tanuki (狸 or タヌキ?) in Japanese, is conventionally considered as two subspecies of the raccoon dog, hondo-tanuki (Nyctereutes procyonoides viverrinus), and ezo-tanuki (Nyctereutes procyonoides albus). Their common Japanese name is often mistakenly translated into English as "badger" or "raccoon". Despite these mistranslations, the tanuki is not related to raccoons or badgers; the "raccoon-dog" is part of the evolutionary family that includes foxes, wolves, and dogs.

PETA has always been good for a laugh... I mean, protesting Kentucky Fried Chicken? Remember 2009, when they wanted the Pet Shop Boys to rename themselves to the Rescue Shelter Boys? How about when they suggested that the bulldog mascot of the University of Georgia should be replaced with a robot? Or how offended these nutjobs were about people throwing dead fish at Seattle Pike Place Market? We should've seen the Mario debacle coming from a mile away.

On the plus side, the group is largely ineffectual and thus Mario will don his pixelated murder-suit for many more years. They're something to be mocked, anyone who takes them seriously needs to reexamine the path they've chosen for their life. There are many organizations who are actually trying to make a difference, not drum up publicity through ridiculous stunts.

OMG THOSE ARE SO CUTE AND FLUFFY eeee I want one ♥

But seriously PETA? Mario has had a raccoon suit thing since what the late 80s...... Plus, you don't exactly see Mario go and skin the darn thing and say "hey kids, do this at home!", so I'm not sure why they're getting upset about it >.>

I agree. But, does anyone less than extreme get anything done?

The March of Dimes organization actually accomplished their original goal (eliminating polio) and had to change movements.

Because Peta has been run by a bunch of fucking idiots for a long time now (does anybody else remember "sea kittens"?) and they don't seem to understand that all these stunts do is either make people hate them and support things like the ASPCA instead, or laugh at them and go buy ice cream.

You do know that getting people to go to the website (for ad revenues) is probably the only reason they actually do these things, right? so... it would be best NOT to direct people there?

I don't mind the sea kitten thing so much since some vegetarians are against eating animals cuz it's immoral but see nothing wrong with eating a fish as if they can't feel pain and aren't ever kept in poor conditions.

lol i don't think you'd get a very good pelt from skinning something alive.

Most animals in the fur trade ARE skinned alive. I don't understand what you're saying... it comes out the same alive or dead. The douchebags that do the skinnings would rather save a bit of cash by not killing the animal first.

However, in response to the general thread... I do think that PETA is taking it a little overboard here, I don't really think anyone would become influenced by Mario to wear fur. However, I don't think it is anything to cause a big deal over on the other end of the stick, I don't really oppose anything that PETA does, even if it is a little crazy sometimes because at the end of the day all PETA is trying to do is protect the safety and well-being of animals. Which I completely agree with.
