Apparently, he People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals says that the new Mario 3D game for the 3DS supports animal cruelty and wearing furs, because of Mario's Tanooki suit, which is racoon-ish looking.
"Tanooki may just be a 'suit' in Mario games, but in real life, tanuki are raccoon dogs who are skinned alive for their fur. By wearing Tanooki, Mario is sending the message that it's OK to wear fur."

http://features.peta...-kills-tanooki/
they even have a game about it.

Discuss.

A little excessive no? I mean we grew up with mario... no one is running around skinning tanuki in hopes of making a new hip mario costume...

I understand when PETA speaks out against celebs who walking around wearing real animal skins as that might be motive for others to go out and do the same, but this is about a VIDEO GAME character for gods sake.

I guess by PETAs standards, Frogger is bad too...b/c he dies crossing the street (many times depending on how bad the player is)

That game was kind of fun until I realized I was playing as a skinned animal chasing Mario for his fur.

And then I felt guilty about my sheepskin slippers.

Come on, man. They were on sale!

So they didn't mention anything about Mario jumping on turtles and using their shells to break blocks? Madness.

PETA is an extremist group. People who follow it and take it seriously are doing it for 1.) money (celebrities) or 2.) because they are uneducated.

Not even going to their website as I don't want to support their cause with ad revenues.

    *facepalm* Really?

I...I'm just at a loss for words.

These people are just STUPID. Tanooki Mario's first appearance didn't stir them up. Why now?

I think they're running out of things to protest against

I agree. But, does anyone less than extreme get anything done?

PETA has some decent causes, but they are definitely on the extreme side with some of their complaints. Though, it's not all that surprising how crazy they get if you consider that they probably value animal lives as equal to humans. When dogs begin wearing leather collars made of dried human skin, then I think we might be onto something.

lol i don't think you'd get a very good pelt from skinning something alive.

I said it on Twitter and I'll say it here: How does PETA expect Mario to afford a real Tanooki suit with a Plumber's salary, especially when he really doesn't seem to get around to actually doing his job.

XD... Has Mario ever fixed a pipe?.. That's why Luigi's so elusive, Mario's got him out fixing all the pipes.

    The fuck?
I pretty much never agree with anything PETA does. Some of their general messages, yes, but their actions, no. And I'm a vegetarian, man.
I also think it's funny that they're just now noticing Mario's tanooki suit. He's been wearing that shit for years. I never even connected it with fur at all. And you really do not see people who play DS running around with fur coats and hats. We're too cool for that.
Little Jimmy: Mommy, mommy! Mario is wearing a suit that looks like it could be made of dead animals! I want one!
The kid likes the suit that much, bring him to a costume store.

Ridiculous. They've scuttled their own ship. PETA is just a joke now. I just shake my head is despair any time I hear about them.

Apparently, we should all dress in lettuce leaves for their sake.

I'm going to buy myself that game just to spite PETA. I'll have a digital raccoon dog fur which was obtained by digitally skinning a digital raccoon dog. What're you going to do now, PETA?

No. We dress in lettuce leaves (and baguettes) for our own sake.

The thing is that if they want ethical treatment of animals then respect the fact that not everyone respects animals just like everyone does not respect George Bush so live your life loving animals and I will enjoy cosmetics, hunting and anything
