Has anyone started yet? Is anyone done?
I just started looking into jewelry for my girlfriend and wanted some input from everyone.
The prices between used jewelry and new jewelry are astronomical but I'm starting to think used jewelry is kind of weird and it might be worth spending the extra cash.
Most ads say "only worn once/twice" but there's really no way of telling, thoughts?

well ya that's another thing, i was thinking earrings are the grossest thing to buy used.
But i've looked at necklaces, rings (we've been dating 2years now), and ya earrings.
Earrings have been the least expensive so I would probably buy them new.

I definitely wouldn't buy used earrings but a necklace or ring wouldn't be bad. Plus if you are really that worried about it being nasty you can buy jewelry cleaner and clean it yourself. I haven't bought much jewelry for my girlfriend ( 1 year ) but I did get her a Pandora charm bracelet so every time I need to buy her a gift I get a new charm for her bracelet and something more personal. It's a great gift just really pricey. If I was in your spot I would probably buy her a nice necklace that I knew she would like regardless of used or not.

Perpetuating the lie of a consumer-based economy? Sucking a big greasy corporate cock? I pass.

    Fuck Christmas.

That's a bad reason for not buying / getting people presents. Buy local or make something?

I have started but I am not done by far.

As a woman, I kind of like the idea that my man might do the research to find a piece of jewelry with a history that suits my tastes and is special to him. I don't mind the idea of new jewelry, though, because it has no past and therefore would be clean and free of any feelings/associations/auras etc.

tl;dr Get her what you want, something that is meaningful to you. Whether it is new or used, she will feel special.

I've started, but I've yet to finish.

I always finish my shopping when I go out with my grandmother. It's a yearly tradition that we do. Go out to lunch, then shop our brains out.

Honestly, unless you've always been a conscientious consumer that buys used and your gf knows and accepts this, I would buy new just to be safe.
I love thrift stores, and my best friend is vegan and *tries* to only buy used so I'm honestly fine with used anything, bathing suits, bras, whatever. But if my boyfriend who doesn't ever go to thrift stores, and buys whatever he wants for himself new at the store, suddenly got me a used necklace to save some money, I might be upset. If you buy new for yourself, I'd suggest sticking to that when it comes to your girlfriend as well.

But be careful buying jewelry!! My bf got my a necklace for christmas last year that was not my style (not bad, just not my thing) and of course I pretended I loved it, and wore it for the next 2 months. But now I don't wear it all and probably never will again. And once i found out how much it cost it seriously broke my heart. There are so many other pieces he could have gotten that cost half as much, that I would have loved, and would still be wearing.
If you buy new, include a gift receipt so that if she doesn't love it, she can exchange it for something she does love. It shows that you tried and had the sense to make sure she'd be happy no matter what. If you get her something she doesn't like, its a waste of money regardless of how much you spent.
