this is clearly not an issue that is going to be resolved by the community
in fact the board itself just reflects the immaturity it is "reprimanding"

PLEASE DO NOT FLAME: this thread was created solely in the interest of facilitating discussion on an important site issue.

Oh please. Your entire post reeks of condescension.

If his contributions are so trivial as many of you believe, then let him go and the site can move on without him.

If the site falls apart then admit you were wrong and give him what he wants.

I know a lot of you are angry at the prospect of this site going down and you need a scapegoat but I see no point for this thread when no one outside of staff has all the information.

Discussing sexy Asian women will probably be more helpful to the situation than discussing the actual subject of this thread (and a lot more entertaining).

I am disappointed that the choices in this poll (and the entire OP) are slanted with a negative connotation. This makes it difficult for anyone who actually supports iargue to show it without looking foolish. I also want to put a disclaimer on this post that it is an effort to be objective without regard for personal friendships or affiliations.

    Spoiler

I don't think that it is "ass kissing" to throw an occasional bone to someone who works hard. I see a lot of hating on iargue around the forum and elsewhere. While he is an asshole (don't trip you know it's true), he works very hard even though so many of you hate him and are quite vocal about it. I would complain too. What I find impressive is that he has yet to leave the forum for this reason alone. His dedication to this site despite all the whining and bitching about him being a powertripping troll is admirable in itself. I would have walked away long ago and I am pretty damn patient.

iargue is not my favorite person in the world (Scot is), but I don't think it's unfair of him or anyone to ask for a little compensation for the hours that are put into the programs and forum that we use here. It's not like he's looking for a regular salary. And I'm sure that it's not like there has never been some form of compensation for any of the management team. Honestly I don't think that you guys should have to ask, you should get occasional bonuses just for being the awesome dudes that you are.

Maybe I am naive (most likely). I haven't been around very long, I haven't seen what you all have seen, I don't have all the information, I haven't slept in two days, my kids are crying, blah blah blah. But now that it seems the thread has degraded into gifs and one-liners, I thought I could share my thoughts.

Should The Artist Formerly Known as iargue (TAFKAi) be removed from the programming team and/or banned?

TAFKAi has exhibited the behavior of an elaborate troll for a long time, but I think now is the time to bring this issue to attention.

While the community of Neocodex can certainly appreciate his programming contributions, it has become clear that he no longer wishes to participate in the community, neither as a regular or staff member.

Like an small child, he demands constant approval and "compensation" for his contributions. He claims that he has gone unrecognized as the sole savior of Codex.

Contrary to the noble savior he poses to be, TAFKAi has instead consistently:

    • complained about everything
    • been unable to take the most lighthearted joke
    • overreacted when things have not gone his way
    • acted immaturely and condescendingly to countless well-intentioned members of Neocodex
In an entirely unsurprising climax to this demand for attention, he has decided to go "on strike", and refused to cooperate with the administrators. By doing so, he has put the site in jeopardy, potentially causing a significant drop in revenue as paying Advanced Members may not receive the program updates implied in their purchase.

Furthermore, he has claimed he is not respected as a staff member, and that the administrators refuse to cooperate with him. Hilariously, it is commonly known that his privileges as a staff member have been diminished, due to unacceptable immature behavior. Instead of accepting his flaws, he has continued to vie for attention, becoming increasingly more extreme in his immaturity and increasingly detrimental to the health of the community and success of the site.

In short, what do you think? I do hope that this thread will remain open long enough for some healthy discussion between staff and site members.

PLEASE DO NOT FLAME: this thread was created solely in the interest of facilitating discussion on an important site issue.

I will ignore you insults to my name, and most of what you have said. Including the fact that you are asking them to ban me because I'm simply not working for free anymore. and will simply explain why I am "on strike".

When I first joined the programming team, there was no such thing as "Advanced membership subscription". They created that ability after I joined, with the intention of using that money to compensate the programmers for their work. They told me that their would be perks and benefits for me as I worked. Over the last two years, my work has far exceeded anything that would be expected of a volunteer, and as such, I have chosen to no longer program until they compensate me for the work.

This entire discussion started because when Toxic was made a staff member, we discussed protocol when he was sending pm's to people when warning them. At that time, Shadowlink64 asked me if I wished to be included in those pm's, and I told him that I did. Then when Boggart joined the team, he was told the same thing. As time wore on, they stopped including myself in those pm's. I sent a pm to the administrators asking them what happened, since I was told I could be included in those pm's. They told me that it wasn't my area of the site and that I should focus on programming and that they will just compensate me for my work. At that time, my laptop was dieing on me, and so I asked them for compensation. I choose a 400 dollar laptop, and asked them if they would get that for me. They told me that they would not get that for me. The last email I got from hydrogen was

    iargue,

Thank you for your contributions. If you aren't happy with how things are, please remember that you are doing volunteer work and are under no contract or obligation to continue working.

    Hydrogen

and at that point, I asked him to let me know when he wished me to program again and left it at that.

I do not think what I am asking for is unreasonable. At this point, I've committed over a thousand hours of programming to codex, and so I cannot reasonably explain to myself why I should continue to program for codex, without being included, or at least paid for my work. I simply cannot continue to work for free like this.

This thread is evidence that it wasn't just left at that. ;)

I have no problem with somebody who decides to stop volunteering for something because they can no longer give their free time to volunteer. I do have a problem with somebody who decides to stop volunteering for something because they can no longer give their free time to volunteer who then decides to publicly declare (very unprofessionally I might add) that they're on strike and demand payment for what has always been a voluntary position.
