Honestly. Anonymous is just being stupid at this point.

Taking down websites that no one even gives a shit about will do nothing but the reverse of what they want. If they had hacked into the MPAA site and taken all of their upcoming movies or something. Sure, that would hurt them, though it would also accomplish the adverse of what they want.

Congress believes that the internet is filled with criminals and pirates, and this will simply reinforce their belief. They will want to lock down the internet completely in order to protect people from a threat that does not exist.

If anonymous wants to make a difference. Hack into a tv station. Take over Fox News for a night. Inform the people of whats going on. Let them understand how the MPAA if fucking over consumer rights in the name of a few more dollars.

Its actually very easy and incredibly possible for them to accomplish it. Given that 90% of televisions in the US use a provider and not an antenna they can simply intercept the satellite feed and alter it to what they choose to stream instead. Or they could break into the network as well, and alter it there.

If the government wants to label them as terrorists, then that's exactly why they should be hacking. If people don't remind their governments that they can get pissed off and revolt, they're essentially giving the government the right to infringe on whatever liberties they hold sacred. It doesn't matter if the sites come back up in a few days, or if they were dumb sites to hack, or if they're supporting criminals. Its about saying: Hey there Uncle Sam, we're not just gonna sit here and do nothing while you make more decisions that profit big business and "fight crime" at the cost of our freedoms. We are angry and dissatisfied with your leadership, and if you screw with us we will retaliate and encourage others to stand up too.

I'm actually kind of pissed about this one. Anonymous has been pushing a bit too far and to me they've sort of got the KKK effect going now, where whatever they support looks like the Crazy Asshole Choice...

Why would I ruin my career in computer security? I'm not a group of hackers attempting to fight back.

It's also looking more and more like Megaupload did knowingly support uploading pirated files, after being warned to remove them, and also offered pay rewards for people who did upload pirated stuff. I'm not really managing to feel sorry for them.

    Nice moral standing.
Cheat programs that violate copyright laws are way above megavideo supporting the free distribution of media.

    1) I don't think you understand what copyright law is or how it's violated.
    2) They supported the illegal distribution of media that never belonged to them (you can own a copy, but you don't own the film rights, image rights, etc. unless you actually were involved in the creative processes that resulted in the product) and provided no money to the people that produced it, only to the people who bought one physical copy and ripped it. Megaupload actively profited off the distribution of data they had no legal right to gain from.
My lack of sympathy stems from the fact that they were stupid enough to do this for so long and utterly failed to cover their tracks, and in so doing have very little chance of coming out of this without a scratch.
    3) Putting words in people's mouths is rude (I never suggested I was better than these people).

I know the loopholes yall try to exploit.
    But.
Tell me that if viacom really wanted to take you guys down, and brought the lawyers then its not bye bye codex.

used for educational purposes blah blah.

    I remember the other sites.
    I remember the letters.
    Drew?

edit: but not the point I was trying to make. Pointing out the obvious irony of a member of a cheating site is against megavideo.

There are no legal grounds for them to even complain about us so they wouldn't bother. Do you really think we'd be here for this long if there were?

    come on.
You seriously believe that? If you started making too much of a profit off of codex for this long then you wouldnt still be here.

Its obvious that neopets isnt that against cheating. They could do alot more to catch alot more cheaters, and they dont because it has gotten to a point that it helps the site.

They go after big item cheaters who could impact the economy. Let all the little fish go, and wait for the big fish.

Why is codex staff against people mass advertising codex on neo. To not cause attention.

Unlike some other sites we don't support things like stealing accounts, selling Neopets virtual items for real money or scamming because they are actually against the law. None of the services which we provide are against the law and that's why we've never even received any correspondence from Neopets about any of our services. Cheating on Neopets isn't against the law, it's only against their own rules so the most they can do is to freeze your account as long as you aren't breaking any actual laws. That is why Neopets changed their T&C a couple of years ago to remove their clause that people would be liable to pay Neopets thousands of dollars for creating/using programs. They removed it because it had no legal standing even in the American law system.

Do you not understand that Cheating isn't against the rule?

The very least that Neopets could do is tell us to take down their images (They can't sue without doing that first) at which point we would just replace it with other images and laugh.

Blizzard VS MDY (Mmoglider) proved (Kinda) that breaking the ToS is not grounds for sueing us (They said that it was completely okay to do it, but at the same time said that MMOGlider itself violated DMCA :|. The courts are retarded).

Given that the laws 100% protect us from any form of lawsuit. I would say, yes, we do believe.

At the most, we are against mass spamming of people advertising the site. Simply because A)Its annoying as fuck and b)Its illegal (Spam).

No one here is stupid enough to lose their account by talking about codex on neopets.

    ^Everyone.

Your telling me that if VIACOM tried to say that your somehow directly profiting from programs that use code directly from their copyrighted website that they could not get your self sued. MANY websites neo cheating based have been shut down by their hosting companies.Just for this reason.person experience

You think that allowing the word "other" as a alternative for buying and selling neopoints for US curency would hold up against the VIACOM lawyers.

You don't seem to be able to comprehend what I'm saying, none of our services break any US laws.
