Codex has members from around the globe, and new members every day. While there are some really good translation websites out there, I know that for some people it is much easier and more comfortable to ask questions in your own native language - especially at first when you are new. What I would like to do here is make a list of people who speak different languages that new people can contact.

I know that not everyone will want to be on this list just because they speak a language other than English, so I will only add those who volunteer themselves by replying to this thread.

This may also help established members to find other people who you didn't know spoke your language! :)

If you fluently speak (i.e. read and write) a language other than English, and are willing to help out the occasional person with questions, please reply below with your language(s).

I will add names to this first post as people respond.

This is a really good idea Nymh! Wish I could help out but I'm language deficient :/

Also, if this develops, it should be pinned or something so there's easy access!

Doesn't this imply that the speaker also has to be able read and write in that language?

I speak fluent Dari and understand Urdu very well but I can't read or write in either language.

I can read and write in Hindi almost perfectly but don't understand any of it. :p

    Great idea nymh!

Do you think it would be a good idea to have the languages listed in the language itself?

K I have tried to add language-appropriate headings to some of the languages... please let me know if I have butchered any of them with my inferior foreign language skills.

Also if anyone could help me by translating the headings which are still only in English to their appropriate language I'd appreciate it :)

Mmmm, I can read and write a bit of Japanese! Not so much 100% fluent, but I'm getting there/can string sentences together and stuff :3
You could add me to the list if you want, but I'm not sure x3 It could be some good practice!

Edit: uuhm my vocab isn't big enough to translate your entire opening paragraph, but here's the list of names of users/languages they speak list in Jap!

    Spoiler

    Hope this helps ^^

    日本語 is Japanese ^_^~
&There are two types of Chinese characters; Chinese traditional (繁體中文) and Chinese simplified (简体中文)
--It may be better to place those two in different groups rather than the dialects actually since (I'm pretty sure that) the characters are the same for all dialects o: ~
(Although then again, the characters can easily be accurately translated from traditional to simplified or vice versa with a translator cx)

    I'm so confused

Ok so I should have Chinese (Traditional) and Chinese (Simplified) rather than Mandarin/Cantonese?
Or should I just choose one (traditional or simplified) and put that only and you guys can sort out the translation to/from the other if needed?

Idunno actually >< ~ /confusing myself as well
It'd depend if the user would be writing in characters or the pinyin/jyutping (as in writing 你好 or ni hao/nei hou)
The characters are the same throughout all dialects, but a Mandarin speaker would not be able to understand jyutping and vice versa :x
(&Someone writing in Chinese Traditional characters may understand Chinese Simplified characters, but most people writing in Chinese Simplified don't understand Chinese Traditional x-x)

But er.. I guess assuming that people won't be writing in the pinyin/jyutping then you could choose the latter choice

    Ok but
I am assuming everyone who speaks Chinese knows how to read/write pinyin/jyutping, but possibly may not necessarily be able to read/write the characters? Or do all Chinese speakers know how to read/write in Chinese characters?
