Thats because of the way the usergroups are currently setup. Unless urgent action is required (ie someone posting porn where they shouldn't), the new moderators know to handle their own areas only for the time being.

Please dont assume you clearly know exactly what we want, or what has been discussed in private with the new moderators because... You don't. It was even mentioned in the original post what their responsibilities are so instead of being an ass about things how about a simple congratulations and move on your merry way. If you can't manage to say something nice, then probably best you don't say anything at all.

So you're staying they should moderate their own areas unless another area needs to be moderated, at which point they should moderate that one too.

You have global moderators.

There's a difference between them removing offensive material such as porn / child porn and moderating, moving / closing threads.

But of course, this thread can't be about congratulating the new moderators, only about Sweeney trying to make a point... right?

Why should a thread that should be closed, remain open until an area mod is online? Why should a reported post remain undealt with until the requisite area mod comes online?
It is a stupid system, and if you genuinely mean to enforce it, you're a fool.

And why can't a thread be both? There's plenty of bootlickers to congratulate the moderators, and I've made my own congratulations elsewhere.

Thanks everyone for the congratulations and welcome (and for not publicly defaming me).

De nada!

I have to be honest, I had my apprehensions about you *points accusingly, glares menacingly, dark clouds hover*, but I've done a lot of reflecting and I've decided that I find you both generous and diplomatic. You're certainly active enough. And you play Neopets. I am always suspicious of people who are as ambitious as you are, so that's nothing personal. :) You have my sword.

But of course, this thread can't be about congratulating the new moderators, only about Sweeney trying to make a point... right?

On the bright side, it hasn't turned into an iargue thread. *whew!* To be fair, you could have just taken his opinion into account, nodded your head sagely and said "Duly noted" or ignored it completely. You are both right anyway. They ARE global moderators, but, as you've said, each one knows precisely how to manage their specially assigned section. So if someone were to post something inappropriate in the graphics area, Strat knows exactly what to do. And if Strat is, you know, at work providing food and shelter for his family, then Elindoril can still step in, even if he's not specifically trained for that section. I don't see what's so confrontational or unreasonable about that.

Sectioned mods worked for an entire day when we implemented it, but I think that was because of admin arguing more than the system failing. It will be interesting to see what happens this time around. What's the worst that can happen, really? :p

*opinion* Also, my opinion is that staff training would be nice to do, if that can be arranged. :D Even if it's training on how policy works here and who they answer to, and how often they are expected to be online, and such. The IRC thing is a good start since it makes communication easier between staff. */opinion*

That is our policy. It's best we clear that part up right away before they expect too much planning and structure from us. :p

Hmm. I feel like I should post here.

Agreed. It's just habit. We're supposed to bicker and hatemonger like the digibliss days.

We have policies? I thought we just made it up as we went along... O_o

Well, we don't have strict interpretation constitutionalists, but yeah some policies have been pretty much standard. Trading for currency has been banned for as long as I've been here.

That is our policy. It's best we clear that part up right away before they expect too much planning and structure from us. :p

Well, when you put it like that...

...What kind of sentence was that there at the end? Come on now... use your words.

And you'd be able to comment if you were around in the past few months. No one is going to notify you that the site is moving on without you.

I demand full length bi-monthly reports written for convenience in case some members fall out of loop.

Chop chop.

I shouldnt have used 'officially' in that phrase, but it was meant to be sarcasm. Although when I was last active it wouldnt have been much of an exaggeration. To be fair I still do not own a computer and using my cell to browse the site takes hours. (mobile version is indeed much quicker but also much much lower quality) lol. No hard feelings lion :)
