I personally think with Animal Planet, Treehouse (for Toddlers) and Discovery Channel it can be considered educational.
Although the history channel.. I don't know what they're all about, but it's barely history.
But many people think TV is just a huge waste of time.
Thoughts?

I learned that nature is scary and that a lot of things blow up.

Although a major portion of it can be a major waste of time.

TV can be educational. Jersey Shore obviously teaches kids how to be a successful adult.

I learn a lot from that show, like how not one staff member seems to research actual nerd stuff before they use it on the show.

I think that TV can be educational if one knows where to look. Obivously most of the Discovery channel shows are educational and the History *tries* to be educational but recently a lot of its shows are not. So I guess it just depends on where you go.

    Discovery channel = educational
MTV = not educational. Unless you want to be educated on how to be a whore and social degenerate

I hate when people feel smart 'cause they understand something on that show. It's not even high brow...

I really hope you don't say it's because you learn a lot and feel smart when you understand the very sophisticated jokes.

I hate that anything computer related they associate with Alienware because they see them as "HARDCORE GAMING COMPUTERS", except they're gaming on laptops which is just hilarious.

    Or this.

i agree, at times I'm like "hah. well done" but it's not exactly a show that requires specialized intellect, just an IQ above 75

And I'm sure you do. But are you an intense gamer on your Mac? :p

I find myself laughing my ass off at some of the sayings/jokes on that show. But maybe I'm just dumb ;(

Welllll not really hahaa. The most intense game I play is Maplestory (so hardcore ikr?) but even that I have kind of quit. And even when I played it I had to play it on the Windows side of my laptop lols

The only scene to crack a smile from me, and the joke that did isn't any of the geek/nerd/gamer/etc jokes.

Although this could have been a good debate thread, it has steered off into more a general discussion about it. (Sorry!)

I think tv can be educational, for sure. Like any information you have to check your sources.
I enjoy travel shows, even though it's just a taste and can be biased, I find it interesting. I don't watch much tv but I can recommend two good series:

    Departures

    Descending

Made by some young guys, photography is stunning.

TV is undoubtedly educational. It really depends on what you want learn ranging from the biased reports of social issues to a documentary of a herd of animals provoked by humans to get action to how to be a hormonal cuntass slut in a drinking party. It really depends if you want to major in joblessness or social indecency.

But really, I feel like education is partly the experience of pursuing information in different ways (reading books, interviews, first hand experiences) and watching television isn't very broad in skill-gaining.

Anything can be educational if you're stupid enough.
