This looks cool, are you learning to paint digtally? Do you use images for reference, like try and copy them? Would love to see the finished version!

Ah cool, maybe try and fill the path with a gradient to see if you can get a nice blend.

I will do that only if I really have to, I really just want to do it the pentool way and making the shadings myself with only one color fills and strokes :) but that isn't a bad idea :)

Yeah, I picked it up from some guys blog, I think it was sosfactory... He does logos and stuff but more of a cartoon style. He inks in photoshop and then colours using gradients in illustrator. I thought you could try and apply that to painting and see what you get :)

Yeah I will try your advice, I actually updated the first post now. I added an gradient but it's barely noticeable.

It looks pretty decent for a WIP.

If you're using the pen tool, vector seems a good choice.
Actually, this is approaching a vector; the edges just need to be a little smoother.
I.e. use as little anchor points as possible. It looks really messy right now (but I can't really judge WIPs based on appearance).
(My signature is a vector too, if you need a simple example - all pen tool, except for the text.)

Painting with the pen tool seems unnecessarily tedious - the brush and smudge tools would be significantly less annoying to work with.
I'm not saying the pen tool is bad though (I find it really useful for rendering, vectoring, etc).

I do have a guided tutorial (that I just remembered about) on using the pen tool if anyone's interested.

    Off Topic:
You should do one of the new characters from Bleach that hasn't been colored yet! (That way, you can post it on deviantART and gain tons of recognition!)
