Okay so yesterday Napiform and I were in the car when I presented her with a scenario:

If everyone on Neocodex was in an actual real life community together and everyone behaved socially exactly as they do here who would you consider to be "Upstanding Citizens" and furthermore why those individuals?

We discussed some finer points about the scenario so if it comes up:
  • We're in a single town.
  • We all behave exactly as we do here.
  • Waser Lave is Sheriff.
  • Pizza is good.
We each made our own lists. Here is mine:
When I think "Upstanding Citizen" + Codexian, these are the first names that pop into my mind.
What do you think?
Who is on your list?
Why those individuals?

Yeah, sounds like a hot date, right??

I chose Nymh, Mish, Turnip, Waser (until he informed me Waser is not a citizen), and then I came up with a couple others right before I fell asleep and forgot. (remembered: ladida, likerobots)

I'd move.

Nyaaa oh gosh!! ♥ I love thinking about how much fun it would be if people from all these IRC channels/forums/other online friends and I met up and stayed together for a week or two or a month or so!! I've gone to a lot of meetups, but they were mostly small and didn't last long enough.. ;w;

I'd post a list of all the people I'd invite to Codexville, but the list would be really really long! I'll have to work on that tomorrow or something!

If only we all didn't live so far away from each other!!! Sobbb

Well, in a sense. More of a hypothetical scenario.

It's easy to point fingers at all the people we don't like, it takes more balls to give a thumbs up to the people who you consider to be a better than you yourself are.

Not really, unless you have some sort of ego or self esteem issues.

Can I be one out of a trio of people that fly around in striped clothes and save the town from certain doom?

Yeah! ...no. Realistically people, this scenario was based on if everyone was literally in a town together, we're all people in real life you will still be you.

This isn't a complicated concept.

Just because I personally don't like someone wouldn't make them less of an upstanding citizen, real world or virtual.

We were working off his definition of an upstanding citizen, btw.

But what is that definition?

Like Melchoire said, those who act nice? Rational? Normal?

Oh don't go into the definition of Normal, I've read 1,200 page philosophy books that just skirted around the edges of normality and didn't even begin to say the word.

Okay perhaps first we should define what an "Upstanding Citizen" is?

To me an Upstanding Citizen is someone who goes out of their way to help others without having to be asked. Who will help someone they see needs help without reserve or hesitation.

EDIT: Also, someone whom others look up to as an Upstanding Citizen. When asked this individual is one of the first that comes to mind when someone says "Who is an Upstanding Citizen?"

You took like 15 minutes to explain it to me last night and that was the only point you were making?
