You couldn't find a way to make it integrated with thread post count?
There are better ways to do it which would require giving us no extra work at all rather than having to permanently police it.

What kind of gift card? PayPal gift card?I try to renew but Paypal doesn't accept the AE GC I'm using, soooo.... can you guys find a way to let me pay via a Gift Card? I have a TON of them left from Christmas and I don't really use them for anything other then Neo stuff =x

Oh, hm. I'm not sure what kinds these are... but they seem to be backed by the popular credit card companies... are you trying to pass them off as a credit card?Nope, I have a few that I've used to purchase things on ebay etc and had no problems with. But if you use a giftcard to pay for something via Paypal it always declines them.
I have a variety of GC's - American Express, Visa etc.

Some people on the boards have asked to donate instead of purchase advanced. They either were already past the advanced stage or just wanted to show their appreciation for the other portions of the site. Not everyone uses the autobuyer and not everyone needs advanced membership. The donation page is for people who still want to contribute. So wait, what are members donating money towards? Subscriptions more then pay for server costs. You're asking members to donate their hard earned cash to further increase the linings of your pockets? Lord, have mercy. Cash grab after cash grab.
Someone just needs to release a decent public, open source autobuyer and be done with all of this.

I think it's pretty clear to everyone that we don't really need the donations. But if people still want to donate, then that's fine with us.

Why not have them donate it to a codex sponsored charity? I'd have no problem donating to a good cause. 'Donating' to the site administrators is ridiculous. I mean really, do you actually want your members to gift you their money?

I donate by buying subscription. It gives me access if I want to utilize programs, and if I don't then whatever. It's only pennies really. Anyways you're Adv+ so you were also voted into a higher bracket than those of us who apparently have spent more time using the forums than yourself.
Besides, it's not like they are forcing anyone to buy. Abrosia is available to people who are regular members, the only real difference is there is a buying speed cap. If you don't want to spend your money here, then don't. Others are more than happy to spare a few bucks towards the upkeep of something we all enjoy.

He's not talking about buying subscriptions. He's saying that donating on top of buying subscriptions seems overkill to him.

They could already donate to any charity they want.

Nobody has to do that if they don't want to do so. The admins have only added that option because some people have apparently requested the wish to do it.

So I'm the only one who believes providing a means for members to donate to the website administrators (on top of the money they make from subscriptions) is just taking it a bit too far? It just seems a tad selfish to me. Perhaps it's just my solid moral upbringing.

Pfft, so it would be wrong of me at Christmas to donate to the Administrators and say "Here's to a good year guys, have a drink on me, you've done a great job?" Some people build friendships of a sorts here, so why can't we throw an extra $10 or so out there if we chose to. The option was requested by the community, so why complain if it's not directly hindering you in any way?
Posted 07 June 2012 - 12:20 PM
I understand that, and it's not my intention complain. I'm simply questioning the decision, which I'm sure I'm entitled too.
It's more the fact that I personally couldn't take people's money when there's more than enough already in the coffers, least of all if it's just going to go to something as superficial as supersizing my next meal at McDonalds. It just seems to me as though the site is continuing down the path of a concerted effort to squeeze every dollar they can out of its members. There's no doubt it's an ongoing trend, for which I'm mostly fine with, but it just seems to me like this is taking things a step too far.

Xth man I don't know why you think this money is going to the admins I haven't made a single penny off codex for the years I was here. In fact I did the opposite and poured in a ton of work that kept getting wiped. The money was used for hosting and paying programmers and buying gifts for prizes etc.So I'm the only one who believes providing a means for members to donate to the website administrators (on top of the money they make from subscriptions) is just taking it a bit too far? Real Items? Any insight on what that might be?We have now introduction coupons to the site store. These coupons can reduce the price of the advanced subscriptions (or if we add real items at a later date, those as-well).
