I found these pages a while ago while looking up weird neo history.

http://neoland.ninomiya.org/ad0.html
http://www.neopets.com/~dianode

Does anyone know anything about him? Always curious to hear about these kinds of stories.

Those links say it all. He gained access to tnt servers and made script changes. The website has had several security vulnerabilities in it since its creation. A while back an sql injection gave out the tables of user/pass.

We should just have a section for the history of neopets keke <3

I think I've heard him before, but those links don't seem very creditable. :/

And if you are unfamiliar with Neopets, 20k is a very small amount of NP. It would be equivalent to losing maybe ten bucks in the real world.

best way to keep their millions of real dollars coming in.

or did not have backups to reset those players' stats

The links sound stupid, but the gist is very accurate.

Yes. He's a friend of mine. ;) Known him for years.
His name is actually Ado. I guess the name 'ad0' stuck because at one point, that was his AIM handle.
I love reading pages about him and about a lot of conspiracies about Neopian History because a lot of the time they are like a horrible game of telephone and I was luckily there for most of them. Lol

Ado did indeed "hack" (if that's the term you want to use) Neopets on many occasions. I think that page claiming he "wrote a script" is a bit silly but most likely someone who doesn't know much about how things work and that was their only way of explaining things. The mis-firing lab ray incident was in fact Ado, he showed me it as it happened and told me to watch specific accounts and pets to see if I notice anything "different". :p
Then there was the time that a ton of user's shop sizes were reset to zero. While everyone else had to spend the money to rebuild their shop size, I sat and watched as that wretched cunt HRobi had her shop size rebuilt by hundreds of sizes every second. (which is almost impossible to do manually)
I've watched as he gave me pets SoS', Slumberberry Potions, etc. out of the blue. Didn't send it to me, they just appeared equipped to my pets. xD

I only skimmed over the second petpage because I don't feel like reading that much but it's a known fact that in the beginning, TNT favored a lot of people including known scammers and even allowed them to get away with scamming people. ;P (mari_jhane is prime evidence of this, if any of you were around back then and remember that name. She's also a friend of mine still ;D haha)

I have a lot of ties to old old Neopia. Started playing in 1999, was a volunteer monitor for quite a few months, had friends on staff, etc. If I could sit down and tell all the stories, shit I've over-heard, seen, had done (had Wendy [ex monitor] transfer my pets to different accounts around 2003/4 LONG before transfers were thought of), etc. I think some people would be really interested. Haha. I swear, talking about the old days makes me want to launch a website devoted to this kinda stuff. Maybe we do need a section of the site for this kinda stuff. :p

I don't understand why that petpage hasn't been wiped as yet. TNT's slipping.

A while back someone talked about doing a history of the neo cheating scene. Don't know what happened to that, but it would be a really cool resource.

That would be cool. I haven't heard much about the neo cheating scene. This is my first time hearing about ad0.

Very interesting story Gorix, thanks for sharing it. :p I didn't know about Ad0, but I read about mari_jhane, something written by a neocodex member who was voluntary monitor. Also I read something that the owner of pinkpt wrote about her. I arrived to Neopia in 2005, so I had no idea of what happened before.

Pretty sure that was me (I've changed my display name once or twice since then) and also pretty sure the PinkPT thing was me as well. LOL
They did a podcast which I was part of once, they also did a long interview (10 year anniversary thing) with me as well. xD Hahaha
Pretty sure both are still on their website

The story sounds believable, Neopets had many SQL and XSS exploits, and you can still create phishers and fake items in your shop if you are dedicated to some trial and error

I play neopets since 2006 and was on the cheating forum hiddenbelow. But I never heard about this. Sure it makes me laugh, that tnt says that the site never had been hacked. Every site exspecially for gaming is a target for hacking, cheating etc.

(Sry if it's sounds a little bit wired. I'm not a nativ speaker and I have some problems with the English grammar)

I've been around the Neo cheating scene since the days of the 'Blaze' Autobuyer, and fabrication (My personal old favourite) The name Ad0 rings a bell, but he has nothing on the Skiddy that I know as 'Chaos' That was his user on this site, I don't remember which one it was though, anyways, He CGed a neo staff members account and used it to generate rare items, which he then duplicated and distributed to the Neopian public, This came to be known as Dupe day.

Thank you Gorix! I love hearing about all of this old neopets stuff. I've been playing since '03, but I was never active on the boards or anything; never knew about any of the things that went on behind the scenes or otherwise.

    http://www.neocodex....ers-dictionary/

I made this thread ages ago. It was a semi-accurate account of him at the time. I met up with him shortly after I left the neo scene in Maplestory oddly enough and he still uses AIM (Screenname Fox I think).

Edit; Also, SQL exploits werent used back in those days. TNT changed their Database to SQL after 4/4/04. Prior to that they used Oracle, which was a rather weak form of code at the time.

Popular scripts back then mainly included just reworking neopets' poorly coded webpages anyways. The whole userlookup restrictions with HTML were brought upon because people like me were putting cookie grabbers up on our userlookups and just spamming in trade/BD Chat S>X item and getting massive attention for it. Made millions of NPs off cracking peoples accounts with a web-based MD5 hash cracker. But it was all pointless in the end as selling stuff for USD was virtually non-existent back in those days and TNT had a pretty good track record of tracking down items passed around.

There was a rumor floating around back in the day about a way to manufacture a new "item ID" for an item by basically flushing it out of the database and back into it by some game exploit. But I never got wind of how to do it exactly or any solid proof about it.

I love talking about neo history more then maplestory hacking history B)

Good to see you again Gorix :o

Mari_jhane was hillarious. That was a prime example of woman powers in the early days of gaming. This girl could do anything she wanted and nothing would happen to her. Believe it or not, Neopets was actually founded and heavily managed by a bunch of closet-nerds who couldnt get any pussy in real life, so the idea of a girl talking to them online was basically heaven for them.

Unless Oracle's software has changed drastically in the intervening years, it still used SQL.

Hmm, I could be mistaken then, it has been quite a long time. Regardless, it wasnt very secure is what I recall Ad0 telling me.

Side note; what the hell happened to Sockopen? I miss him :(
