I'm from the south, but (compared to my friends and redneck neighbors) I never thought I had any sort of southern accent. Well, years back I took a trip to St. Louis. Was at a snack bar or something, asked for a bottle of water. The two guys running the registers just looked at me and grinned, "You sound like a regular Southern Belle!" ...So I guess I do.

Floridian here. I sound very neutral with the exception of "th" words like "the" and "thorough" (I grew up in Brazil). No matter how hard I concentrate, I can't make certain words sound "American."
