I got lucky because my field of study is linked with environmental causes and I get very good grades, so various organizations throw cash at me relatively often. For a field that I've been told is useless and is going to get me nowhere in life it's been very good to me.
What major is that?

Or how much you make.FASFA is all about how much your parents make. Honestly. If your parents make over a certain amount, you get 0%. If under, you get x%

If you want a rough estimate now, you should look at your EFC (Estimated Familial Contribution.) I believe 5500 is the marker for Pell Grant. If your EFC is > 5500 you may still qualify for federal loans and other programs. Also, if your EFC has an asterisk (*) after it, then you are one of the ~30% that will be audited this year for accuracy. You will just have to provide the school with the actual tax documents of your parents and or yourself. (Sores under 5500 are better as it will determine what amount you will receive for your Pell Grant. Obviously all of your financial aid is going to be determined by the cost of your university but those are the federal markers for Pell Grant and for audits.Woot! My FAFSA got accepted today, now it just got processed to my university to look at to see how much they want to give me. Wish me luck!

Until you are 24 at least..or decide to have a kid, get married, or go into the military. After that you don't have to report your parent's income any more. Applied this year as an independent for the first time and got a lot more than I would have gotten under my parents (who don't even support me financially anyway)
