Ahem, I did watch the Elegant Universe on PBS, good show.
However, Dr. David Hardin, one of the very few people I know is head and shoulders smarter than myself (we took statics together) told me 17 was his theory. To clarify, I suppose I should have said bosonic string theory requires 17 dimensions, superstring theory only need 11 dimensions.
Really, a lay presentation of PBS is your source of validation of scientific theory?
P.S. Or it could all be loops, ya, loops are da thang.
